So we just bought a brand new 2013 Chevy Volt electric car. It is my favorite color (bright red) and we got an amazing deal on it because it was a "demo" model (the dealership manager drove it for 6000 miles as his personal car). So it's a great car, and it has literally a million different features because it is the highest end Volt that exists.
My question is, what do you guys think of the Chevy Volt, and do you guys have any good or bad experiences with the Chevy Volt?
I've included a picture below for your viewing pleasure! :D

We were considering it, but we went with the Plug-in Prius instead. We needed the extra room and it still gets us about 14 miles on electric. The volt does get about 40 miles on electric only, but the mileage goes down dramatically when it runs out. Considering my mom only drives about 10 miles to and from work a day, the prius is perfect for us and when we need to take long trips, we get about 70-80mpg when the electricity runs out. The volt DEFINITELY looks cooler though, we just needed more space and the prius comes with some pretty cool shit inside of it. My mom also has a 2012 Tahoe as her winter car soooo, it kinda cancels out the Prius lol

I don't get the whole hype of these "enviro" cars.
Slow, horribly made, and actually worse for the environment than internal combustion motors.
The battery's (and solar panels that some use) end up in landfill generally. The electricity that charges electronic cars come from the power grid.

So yeah. I think that their only purpose is something cheap to run. If anyone buys one to be 'good to the environment', they aren't the brightest.

Slow??? Haha!!!
We raced past some idiot in a showy Beamer (BMW) along with other cars at 65mph in total battery power on the way home tonight!
Also, Chevy recycles their Volt batteries so that they nor any of their components ever touch the landfill!
Also, electricity is a renewable resource, gas isn't so "enviro" cars like this one aren't nearly as bad for the environment as gas cars.
And we didn't buy it for efficiency anyway, we bought it because it's a cool new car!
Anything else untrue that you'd like to bash about my new car now?

0-60mph in 8.5-8.9 seconds isn't slow?
100mph top speed? (Fair enough it's limited, but lets be honest here, it's no performance car.)

Do you know how electricity is made? Coal. Coal needs mining, which in itself is apparently an environmental nightmare. The combustion of coal is what makes power. Not exactly a renewable resource in my opinion. You are correct though, neither is gas.

I just researched the Volt to find the 0-60 time, during which I couldn't find any information on the recycling of Volt batteries, only that GM is working on a solution to work on either recycling or disposal of batteries.

I was not bagging out your car. You asked for the opinion in the thread, I gave my honest opinion. Is that not the purpose of the thread? Everyone has different car taste. I personally don't believe that electronic cars have yet reached the benchmarks of [most] internal combustion engines in terms of refinement convenience, and performance. That isn't to say it won't happen, the Fisker Karma is not so bad.

I was merely saying that these cars, Prius' and Volts etc, are not as good for the environment as people think. I believe that the hydrogen technology used in the Honda Clarity is a better solution for this entire global warming fad. The batteries used in that are, according to Honda, a permanent item throughout the vehicles life, and they are recharged by a hydrogen cell; hydrogen being the most common element in the atmosphere. They don't need replacing every 8 years like the Prius (I'm not sure how long they last in the Volt).

You asked for opinions, don't get so emotional when people give them. I wasn't trying to offend you.

I can't stand these hybrids. They seriously aren't better than most cars. I love when I get some environmentalist who yells at me for blowing black smoke out of my duramax Sierra and how the say its soo bad for the environment. Last time I checked I get 17 to 19 mpg and the smoke is carbons which go right back into the ground and promote life. So how is it bad.?

My dad is the "environmentalist". He now owns this Volt and another hybrid.
I do agree with you though, they feel weird to drive. I'm perfectly content with driving my 1994 Ford Ranger XLT. It is a rusty old truck that barely passes emissions inspection, but it only cost me $800.00, and I haven't had a problem with it in the 3 years I've owned it!

You can't really say you can't stand "hybrids". Hybrid cars refer to any car powered by more than one source, and almost every hybrid system carmakers use are different. Sure, your experience in a Prius may have been dull but Peugeot/PSA and VW/Audi/Porsche use parallel gas-electric systems to achieve better performance more efficiently and it does so very effectively. For example, PSA was able to mount electric motors at the rear axles to give their standard 2L front-drive cars enough boost to keep up with a V6 and have AWD ability.

Back to the Volt - I spoke to someone from school who drives one, he goes super early every day so he can get one of the parks by the building that can reach into the power. He gets super pissed when he doesn't make it on time hah!

To be honest though, electric cars are ruled almost pointless here in the states since our energy is coal-mined. It's probably just as inefficient and harmful to the environment as burning conventional gas. That said, there are other countries which are much more efficient in their energy supply, getting sources more from geothermal, wind and solar grids.

If I really was after enviro-friendly, I'd pick a German diesel car hands down.
