hi my name is maria i am 16 and i am going to get braces in a week, i was wondering how much did they cost and found a little information about them well here it is. (Basically, the average cost of braces will lie between 3000 dollars to 3500 dollars. This is the basic cost excluding dental cost and other adjustment cost outside the installation of braces.) i got this information from this website http://bracesmania.com/braces/how-much-do-braces-cost/ but i dont really know if this is true dose anyone know about that?

Puberty 101  VT General Hospital. Since this is a medical question, it fits better here. :)

If you're getting braces, I'm assuming your parents can afford them, and it shouldn't be a concern to you on cost (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Basically, all you need to know is that they will hurt. Ibuprofen will become a best friend after you get them on and tightened. If you're really susceptible to pain, try talking to your orthodontist about getting some higher quality pain meds for the first few days. Trust me, they really are hell. I wish I could say they aren't, but they are. You will realize that you won't be able to eat solid food for few days. If you can get some good pain meds, you can just stay in bed and eat pudding and not give a fuck.

The next thing to worry about is brushing. Do it more than you do now. You can get away with not giving up soda (maybe drinking less), but you'll have to brush at least 3 times more than you do now. If you get a cavity under the braces, you won't know about it till after you get them off. Happened to a relative, it was awful for them.

The only other thing to worry about is tightenings. These will cause pain, no where near the initial set up of the braces though. Regular ibuprofen should do fine for this, with some soft foods for the rest of the day.

Then you have nothing to worry about until you get them off. Retainers will be explained by your orthodontist.

Braces aren't really all that bad, just take care of your teeth in the mean time. The pain might be bad, but it's nothing that will kill you.
