Patchy Facial Hair - Can't grow a beard?

Basically I feel like it is every guys dream when he is a teenager to be able to grow a beard. lol At least it was for me. I couldn't wait until I got older so I start to grow one, but it's getting so frustrating. I am about to be 20 years old and I STILL can't grow a beard. I can grow a goatee, a mustache, and sideburns. I have some hairs on my cheek and neck, but they are random hairs that don't fill in.

It bugs me so bad because all I want is to be able to grow a beard. I am the only one out of all my guy friends who can't grow a beard. A few of my friends always tell me to grow mine out, but I feel stupid telling them that I can't because my facial hair is patchy and doesn't fill in. I feel like I am a 15 year old boy. I have been growing facial hair for almost 6 years now and I feel like it's going to be forever before I can grow a simple beard. There has definitely been hair growth over the past few years, but it's going so slowly. I just feel like it's never going to happen.

I know it is all about genetics and all that, but the thing is, my brother was able to grow a full beard by the time he graduated high school and the same with my dad. I don't understand why I can't.

I shave every 2 days because if I let it grow any more than 2 days, it looks stupid because it's patchy and doesn't fill in. At this point, I just want to be able to grow a beard because so I don't have to shave so often. Shaving is probably my least favorite thing to do. If I could grow a beard I could let it grow out and I wouldn't have to shave so often.

But surely a goatee, moustache, AND sideburns is PLENTY enough proof of your masculinity?? I hate having to shave all the time. What about your body build? You feel as if you're still 15, but I bet you're nearly 6 feet tall & muscular! You might have different friends in a few more years, & then you won't be the odd 1 out. I'm guessing that you are certain that you're not the least bit gay.

heh i am pretty much the same way, everything grows except the cheek and jawline, where it is just really patchy. some guys never get full beards though, but pubrty really isnt done at our age either, changes can still happen all through the 20s as well.

What do you mean by "patchy?", and surely if you have to shave every 2 days that's more than enough, right?

that happens a lot. i have that issue too if i try to let it grow to full beard.
