There might already be a thread on this, but what age were you when you first harmed yourself? And do your parents know?

I was ten years old. I hid it for about 2-3 years and then my parents found out.

I was eleven- it was horrible..... I slashed my wrist pretty hard with a razor blade..... Gave myself stitches after and then learned my lesson: don't do anything too stupid

Oh man, you were all so young when you started. I was 14-15 and started in my 4th month of ED treatment, and my mom only found out because I stupidly left a pair of scissors in the shower, which I using to trim off dead ends, not cut.

I almost liked them not knowing better. Because I had my secret I could call my own. My parents reacted in anger because they didn't know how to react. I'm in therapy now. As far as my parents go though, it's ignored too.

Yeah, I guess it's easier for them to react that way. I'm pretty glad they ignore it. Knowing my parents, they'd probably be checking my arms all the time, and possibly making me go to a some sort of psychiatrist.

I was 13 the first time I CUT. But I've self-harmed (biting, scratching, hair-pulling, and hitting myself...) before at much younger ages, although I didn't really know that it was SH at the time and it wasn't frequent.

Now I've been trying to get out from my addiction n it went well until I started to worry about my boyfriend's health n I got bullied badly again :( I cut myself badly last summer my wrist was just bleeding but I just covered it well so anyone didn't find out. Then I tried to get help from doctors but they refused to help me with my self injury. They just said "It will go away with time" but they were wrong; It just got worse with time when I were all alone without anyone to talk with.

I'd keep sawing at my arms with butter knives in 7th grade, just so that it would sting, but I didn't actually break the skin until 8th grade, and it didn't scar until 9th. Also started happening more frequently in 9th grade. I now keep a razor by my bed.

My parents have no idea, and I prefer it that way. I'm already sorry that there are a few people I actually talk to that know.
