I think I'm developing an addiction to paracetamol and ibuprofen. I haven't told anyone about it. During the past year and this year, I've had several colds and regardless of whether or not the medicine works, I'd always take it, more than I would need to. I took some today even though I'm fully recovered. I don't know why. It was in my room and I had water. I just had some.

I've never overdosed, surprisingly. It's not even that I'm having it all the time, but rather the amount. I'm taking about 3 tablets for each dose, when the maximum is clearly labelled at two, and not to exceed 6 in a day. I don't know if it'll ware off, but I guess showing demand characteristics knowing that I'm taking something better makes me feel a lot better about myself. My immune system is weak already. Surely there isn't any harm in helping it with these painkillers? I don't even do it for the high. Give me a placebo, I'd be happy all the same.

Painkillers like ibuprofen and paracetamol aren't addictive. However, as you have been taking too much, you would have become tolerant to their effects.

Ibuprofen and paracetamol aren't addictive. It's not necessarily bad to take them but it's not good either. For instance: if you are taking 3 200 mg tablets of ibuprofen that is 600mg which is a low prescription strength. As long as you aren't taking them none stop you should be fine. Just keep in mind that they both have side effects like liver failure and thinning of the stomach lining as well as the fact that although your tolerance for them may increase, taking too many can still cause you to overdose and you'll never see it coming.

Try and force yourself off of it. You've realized you have the problem. Try and stop using it. If that doesn't work, tell your parents and they can help you monitor your consumption.

The chances of being addicted to it are very low. But it's not physically addictive, it's probably triggered a mental addiction for you. It's really difficult to cut an addiction cold turkey, so just wean yourself off of it.

Edit:
It's also impossible (http://prescription-drug.addictionblog.org/can-you-get-addicted-to-ibuprofen/) to get high off of ibuprofen (or experience a euphoria).

I'm not sure whether the Doctor would be able to provide a placebo pill for you, if it's the physical act of administering the drug which you feel is satisfying to you.

Ibuprofen and Paracetamol, as previously said, shouldn't cause any severe damage to your body. However, continual exposure to these could cause some problems in later life.

If you are in doubt, I'd definitely consider talking to a parent or someone you can trust about how you feel. I wouldn't panic because this can definitely be managed effectively.

It seems that you just have a psychological addiction to the act of ingesting them when you feel a cold is coming. It is not the drug you are addicted to, it is the habit of taking it.

You need to ask for help and soon, as you are most likely damaging you liver by ingesting it over the 7 days straight limit. Habit addictions are the hardest to get rid off, but you can do it. And seeking professional help is not a bad idea on many cases.

Ibuprofen is not a "medication" you can get addicted to it has no addictive qualities. Which is why I think your takin it just to "feel" better. You should stop taking it as it can harm your and go on a placebo pill.

You are not addicted to them, you may think you are, but you are not. Just stop taking them, all they will do is ruin your liver basically.

Yeah, stop taking them. No physical dependence, so it's best to just stop. Get them out of your room to start with. Ibuprofen can cause bleeding problems...as in bleeding through your stomach lining (which is why one direction for taking it is "take with food or milk"), and I doubt that would be very pleasant.

Good luck, man.

I think you may have a severe physical addiction to ibuprophen and marijuana both because of the cross tolerance between the 2. I would immediately stop abusing this drug, or possibly ween yourself off over the course of a few weeks If the withdrawals are unbearable.:yeah:
