So today was my first time with my school counsellor. It wasn't too bad. I have to go again tuesday fortnight. What are your experiences with counsellors?

Well I haven't been to a councillor before, but well done on taking a step in the right direction. :)

She helped me get over my depression and suicide thoughts through a series of different approaches; meditation and just talking about what i was feeling got me out of it and made me feel better about myself.

She also refereed me to a shrink, but was not good at all, I could not open up like i did with her.

Horrible. If anything i try my best to stay away from them. I couldn't open up to them and they made me so much worse by expecting me to get over all my problems so quickly. Maybe it's just me, but i hope your experiences are better than mine. Good luck x

I've been with a school counselor, and honestly I hated the experience. It felt forced and awkward, and made me feel like I was crazy or something. It's not where I'd like to be.

But, it works for some people. Good luck! :)

I had a youth worker/guidance counselor come into the school who I went to see for a while. The first couple of times were alright, it was good to get things off my chest even if I felt uncomfortable telling her. After a couple of sessions though we just talked about the same kind of things and I didn't feel I could open up to her anymore, it was just getting more awkward and uncomfortable so I stopped going and she hasn't contacted me about the referral she supposedly made 2 months ago.
