Everyone wants to do something with their life. We want to make something of ourselves. Be remembered.
But is it really important to do that? To leave a legacy?
I think everyone wants to, and everyone should. Even if it's only one person remembering us, shouldn't we make a difference?

It's important to those who want it to be. I mean, not everyone is going to be this innovator of the world, or "change" the world like these famous innovators did.

That doesn't mean that you can't change it, though. We all want to be remembered - and usually, it's for something we feel we're doing right. I certainly do, and even if it's not a lot of people who will remember be or what I did, it'll be enough.

But to add onto that point, what we do in our life, (disregarding religion for now), will all be pointless. We're all going to die, and there will be a time after human consciousness on earth. At that time, there won't be anyone to remember that anyone ever did anything, much less you.

It's true that one day we'll all die out, but until then we have plenty to leave behind for later generations.

We could discover cures for every disease. We could discover solutions for energy issues. We could do anything, but to do that, we have to try. If nobody tried to do anything, we'd still be here with the same issues in the future, instead of having solutions for them.

Imagine if nobody had bothered to invent computers or the like. Then where would we be? We'd be a lot worse off, due to the fact that we wouldn't have nearly as much as we do today.

We've accomplished an unbelievable amount in just the last 100 years of our 10,000+ years on this planet, so what's to stop us doing even more?

It doesn't matter that in maybe 5,000,000 years or whatever it is, the sun will die out, and supposedly us with it. That's 5,000,000 years from now, and we've been around for about 10,000. Put it into perspective.

I wasn't saying that you shouldn't try to accomplish everything you could in your own lifetime; of course you should. But (well maybe it's just me), I have a hard time getting that fact out of my head. Sure, it's highly unlikely the human race is going to die ou anytime soon, but still.

Out.* ;)

And I have that thought a lot too, but it doesn't mean we don't have to try.

In my opinion, it is, it gives life meaning. Most people, would want to be remembered, in a positive way, by their friends, family, peers, etc. They would want to be remembered, as a successful, caring, and generally, a good person.

So yeah, I think it is important to leave behind, a good legacy. Otherwise, what's the point in living life?

I want to make a difference, whether it's big or small, just knowing that I made a difference in a person, group, community, population, or the world. I think that its important to make a difference, because with the life we are given I think it is important to give back. (Gosh I just sounded like a religious hippie)

I think everyone would like to leave some sort of legacy, but I don't think it's that important.

You'll always leave a "legacy" It doesnt matter how small it is.

This depends on what the definition of "legacy" is.

If it means being famous or doing something noteworthy to the world...then to me, it is not very important.

If it means raising any children I may have in a proper manner, and making sure I am able to provide for them...then yes, it is important to me.

I want to leave a legacy. I want to have kids and maybe pass something down so I can be remembered :P

Everybody leaves some legacy... Small or large.
The human need for a larger legacy is understandable. In all senses of the word.

Even though I think that we want to be remembered as nice people at least, and that is not at all a bad thing, but in the ultimate since of things, why does it matter? You will never get to realize what legacy you gave to your society anyways, so I think that if you just live right and not worrying about having a bad rep after you die, your going to leave a positive mark on the world, even if it is a minuet one.

Yes you should leave a legacy behind. And yes it really is important because how do you know you want change someones life after you have passed on?

take for example Bruce Lee he's been dead since 1973 and yet to this day his legacy still changes peoples lives.

Also take the old time Strong men/Weightlifters : Arthur Saxon , Eugen Sandow,Bob Hoffman,Alan Calvert,Hermann Gorner, and George Hackenschmidt they have had a big infulence on my life, and because of them I am more interested in living a healthy life then I would have been if i'd never have herad of any of them.

So yes leaving a "positive" Legacy is vital.

Vital, you say? I don't think you HAVE to. Not everybody wants to be remembered.
