Hey, don't you think it would be a great idea? There's a movies/TV thread, a music thread, a photography thread... There should be a room for one of the world's most important forms of art!!

That's what The Open Book is for. :P

Yes, but the main subject in that thread is the work of VT users, not "real" writers or books or styles... They should be separated so there is a better organization!

You can post about any piece of literature there though, it doesn't have to be personally by you. Many threads in that section talk about books by different writers, so a whole new sections probably isn't needed really. The section is meant for any piece of literature.

The Open Book is not solely intended for professional writers' works; it's purpose is to be a place where anybody can post about, share or critique any form of writing they wish -- whether it's your own work or the work of an accomplished writer.

The section's description on the forum index even starts off with mentioning members' work:
Written something recently? Or want to just admire other writers, then come on in!

Wonder.

I think it should be separate. If I want to read a story someone wrote, I don't want to have to search through threads about published books for it. Even though it's barely an inconvenience, it still would be useful. I also think original music/covers should be in other works, not in the music section just because there's so many threads about "legit" music that other's work is just pushed back pages because people don't go into the music section to hear covers, they go into it to talk about "real" music.

Getting back on topic (although I wasn't too far off), the same ideas about the music section could be applied to books.

And before people use the argument that photography and artwork are for amateurs and professionals, I personally have never seen a thread talking about professional photographers but I have seen plenty of threads about published books. It just seems unfair to me to have it be all mixed together.

Because that's what the section has turned in to. If you're posting a cover, it's usually in TWPR.

It clutters the forum to have too many subsections.

Bolded responses.

Anywho..yeah, I think it's fine the way it is. If you want to discuss a book, start a thread.

Yes because I get so confused when I try posting in the art forum. I don't even know where I can post my short stories I've written

I don't really write, or check out the section for that matter, but I think it's logical to make a thread for book discussions. It's not against the rules to it, if you want to post it in there, go ahead. I can also host it in my diary, if you so wish!

I think that having the open book is fine. But maybe put a sub forum in

I think things are fine as they are. This is currently a perfectly sustainable system and if you don't want to post in the Open Book you have a VT blog ;)

This. Or a diary, alternatively.

It's perfectly reasonable to post a book review or discussion within the Open Book alongside user submitted works. Mike himself started a thread regarding The Perks of Being a Wallflower recently and it's thriving just fine among the clutter of user works right alongside of Blake's thread for The Fault In Our Stars. I don't see any practical reason to alter how the Open Book is run currently as it's not really heavily trafficked enough to deem a subforum necessary for organizational purposes. The recent threads date back to the 25th already as is.
