Hey, my friend got banned for having two accounts, and I'm asking on his behalf why do people get banned for having the more than one account? Thanks

Simple answer, because it's against the rules.
Other answer: why do you need 2, you don't.
Another answer: Usually only one gets banned and you get a warning saying not to do it again blah blah blah.
Basically, there's no need for more than one account, therefore, it gets banned.

It's explicitly stated in the rules that you are only allowed one account:
To register and post on these forums, you must be between the ages of 13 and 19. If you are underage or overage, your account will be terminated. Users are only permitted one account. FAQ. (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/faq.php)
This policy is more common sense based than anything else, really. If you're a user of these forums, there's absolutely no reason you should have more than one account. If you could, it makes it much easier for a user to lie about who they are.
If he made a second account so one could be a "puberty 101" account, and one could be an "everywhere else on the forums" account so he could remove the reputation of "being a P101er" that too is unfair, and in part, lying.
Of course, if your "friend" made an account after being banned, that should be obvious. Once you're banned from these forums, without a proper appeal, you're not allowed back. That's the point to a ban.

Ahhh, but he got his account frozen for asking people about skype details as he couldn't private message, and he made a new one as he thought you had to have one to do certain things on the forums, but he never uses it.

First off, said user should have known that soliciting others for Skype details is against the rules, and the only way he could be frozen because of this is if he disregarded multiple warnings by moderators.
Yes, when you're frozen, you can't Private Message, post, etc.. That's the point of a freeze. It's not to see if you can get around it - but for you to realize what you did was not allowed here.
He not only made a second account, but he made it to bypass a freeze/ban, therefore all accounts were banned. If you'd like to tell me any specifics, then PM me.

Let's not shoot the messenger. Perhaps the ban message left for the freeze was not explicit enough in stating that it was a disciplinary action and that when it would be lifted he/she would be allowed back to the site; it is worth remembering not everyone is as comfortable and accustomed to the procedure we take here as you and I may be. We should take some time to make sure that everyone is included and can learn quickly in the community rather than getting hasty about it.

Then I can only hope he would have sent a ban appeal/request.
However, if you're frozen for sending out Skype details, it means you've likely ignored multiple warnings, probably by multiple moderators. Taking the extra time to spell out a warning after the third or forth time isn't entirely necessary in my opinion.
While I agree that not everyone is as well accustomed to the rules as staff members or long time members may be, they've had ample opportunity to read and understand the rules, and in the case of this member, they were even personally warned by a moderator.

You shouldn't be getting into a debate bud, it would be unprofessional, especially since things have changed ever so much since you last remember.

I would actually prefer if you were to take this question, and PM a moderator, that way a more proper answer and conversation maybe had.

In regards to ban reasons and questions, I'd prefer them to stay private, indeed we;re all here to help, but unless you're staff sometimes you may not be able to give the answer 100%.

Kind of off-topic, but I just thought of it since it was mentioned here. What happens when members turn 20? Does there account just deactivate on the date listed as their birthday?

Yea this is off topic, so you could have made another thread, it's fine though. :P
If a member registers between the ages of 13-19, they are allowed to stay after they turn 20. Most of these users will "move on" from the site or come on less often by the time they're 21-22+ because, well, it's a teen site, and they've gotten all they could out of it.

I don't understand why you have replied to my posts, or furthermore why it is unprofessional to say I don't want to be involved in a debate (especially given I am not a member of staff). Of course I can't give the answer if it's an internal based issue, but given the lack of maturity shown by any of the site's leaders in this thread I think Coolboi deserves a response from someone who's willing to actually help him.

How do you appeal bans?
You send a message to the email indicated on the ban reason.
Tell the banned user to contact me at

I have spoken to coolboi privately, and the issue has been resolved.
And I don't believe that any member of staff has shown immature behavior in this thread, or the site in general. Of course that's unrelated regardless, and has no place here.
But as for the topic of this thread, the question has been resolved.

Maturity is not making snidey remarks and trying to get the last word. Just say it's been resolved and lock the thread. I'm sure you'll grow up in a few years, but you may as well fast track that in your position.
Wonder.

I realize this isn't my fight so I should probably stay out of it but if anyone is acting immature, it's you as proven by the last sentence of the post I quoted. I reread everything StoppingTime has said and I have seen nothing wrong. All I saw was facts being stated and it didn't seem rude or immature at all. Some of the sentence structure was a little teenager-like, yes but what do you expect from people on a site for teenagers?
I'm so sick of seeing people pointing fingers and saying negative things. Also, if you had a problem with anything said in this thread, you could've PM'd them about it instead of making it a public thing. (And before you point out that I'm making this post public, it's because you already started this.)
