Pentagon forces are planning to brain scan puppies to spot the best dogs they will use to train in the arm forces.
The military will use MRI in a project names FIDOS to find out whether they're good enough.
A document outlining the plan said:
'This effort will capitalize on first-of-its-kind neural imaging feasibility work; demonstrating functional brain activation in unrestrained dogs in response to handler cues,'

So they will find out which ones respond best to humans trying to train them.

'The objective of this effort is two-fold; first, to optimize the selection of ideal service dogs, both in operational military and therapy environments, and second, to use real-time neural feedback to optimize canine training, shortening training duration, reducing costs, and increasing learned responses.'

Dogs are used in the US military to sniff for drugs, detect bombs and even missions such as the shooting of Bin Laden.
It costs $20,000 to train each dog.

At first I was like, "Yes! Shelter dogs will be saved from the needle!" Then I saw puppies and specially bred.

Hopefully it'll be cost efficient, save them from spending money on a dog they'll have to retire due to disobedience.

It's not like ww2 was when we strapped explosives to dogs and tossed meat into the enemy's bunker!
This is for stuff like drug sniffing.

All they do is knock them out and put them on a scanning bed, it's painless and harmless

Thats not what I meant I thought they where going to see which dogs where best for actual direct combat purposes.
