I just feel like making a really good debate right here! I am indeed a dancer, but I want to see other peoples opinions and see a really good debate fight here! So like the title said, is Dance a sport or is it not?!

It can be, but only if you dance competitively

You can easily tell if you look at the oxford dictionaries definition of sport;
an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

Of course dance is a sport! It's physically demanding no matter what style you choose and is generally... yeah. Sport. Defos.

Definition of sport: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sport

Yeah, i'd say it is a sport.
Just about anything done physically, is considered a sport.
As mentioned though, when it's done competitively, that makes it a sport.
When it's done solo, it's not really a sport.

Basically, a sport is a competitive physical activity, so yeah, I don't know how someone can say it isn't a sport.

Yep, I'd say it's a sport when done competitively. It's definitely a lot of physical work that takes a lot of skill, and you compete.

I am dared to say NOOOOO it's not a sport. Just for a great argument's sake.
But my true opinion: Yes it is a sport unless you dance like on a party or something.

Is cheerleading a sport?
If so, yes, dance is a sport.

As long as its competing its a sport by definition, but ask a football or soccer player if its a sport and they will say no. Dance is just as demanding as any other activity, except you don't need as much bulky-ness as you might in football, or you don't need as much strong legs as you may in soccer.

Dancing is classed as an expressive art. It's a sport if done competitively though.

I know what the dictionary definition says, but regardless I say no it's not a sport. Neither is cheer, or golf, etc.
My concept of sport requires physical (athletic) exertion and it must possess an offensive and defensive portion. I respect that dance/cheer/golf/track&field requires a huge amount of athletic prowess, but in none of those activities can you do anything to stop your opponent from beating you.
People can hate my concept, nevertheless I just can't call something a sport if you can't do something on the defensive side of the game. They always say defense wins championships.

Dance is a sport. If you say it isn't, then you're wrong.

Is cheerleading a sport?
If so, yes, dance is a sport.

Only competieve cheer and dancing are spots at least I think because I believfor something to have a sport their must be a winner and a loser.

I'm a dancer... I dance professionally meaning I get paid to rehearse and perform.... I don't think dance is a sport, dancers are athletes and artist, dance is an art the body in the brush, the music is the paint and the stage is the canvas
