Well this is how I had my first "opportunity" to start dating someone. This happened pretty recently, last year. I'll start off with how everything started.

There was a girl that I had known ever since I moved into the district in the 7th grade, but we had never really been actual friends. Let's call her A (Don't wanna be giving off actual names here). During my freshman year in high school, we had English class together, and near the end of the year I thought to myself "It'd be strange if I started liking A sometime in the future." Well, sophomore year comes around, and a few days in, she transfers into 4 of my 6 classes. A month goes by, and I start to develop feelings for her. I looked back several months earlier, where I thought it'd be strange to start liking A.
Late September comes around, and the homecoming dance/football game is coming up. So I figure I'll ask her to the homecoming dance by telling her I have to translate something for Spanish homework (we have Spanish together also). In Spanish it said "Will you go to the dance with me?" on a piece of paper, which is "Vas ir al baile conmigo?". So early October arrives, and I choose a day when to ask her to the dance. One morning me and my friends go to the store across the street and I buy a bouquet of roses for A. People start asking who I will ask to the dance and I tell them who. They tell A someone is going to ask them to the dance but she is beyond curious to know who it is, and she keeps asking but no one tells her. So I wait until English class, the last class of the day to ask her (The way my school works, you have 3 classes on one day and 3 classes on the other. We didn't have Spanish that day.) and I put the roses on my friend's desk so it wouldn't look like they were mine. I have the paper with the question written on it, and after a few minutes, I finally work up the guts to go ahead and ask her. I say "A, I need help with this, can you help me?" and she comes over and reads it out loud, "Vas ir al baile conmigo". I ask "Which means?" she replies "Will you go to the dance with me?" and I say "Yeah, so...will you?". She hesitates, and thinks for a minute. Someone says "Say yes!" rather loudly, and that gets everyone's attention. The whole room goes quiet. People are whispering and such, and us two are sort of standing there, me waiting for a reply. After 2-3 minutes, which seemed like an eternity, she says "Let me think..." and she goes to sit down on the other side of the classroom. I was somewhat relieved since everybody wasn't watching anymore, but not relieved because I didn't receive a yes or no. A few minutes before class ends, she calls me over to the other side of the classroom. She tells me "Well I wasn't really planning on going to homecoming honestly, so how about we go on a date instead?". It takes a second for everything to register for me, and I said "Ok, sure, that sounds good." and she tells me she'll text me. I walk back to the other side of the classroom, not sure how I feel. I sit down and the rest of class goes by in a flash. So we plan things out the next day, we decide we'll go to a movie. I told my dad (whom I live with) that I have a date that upcoming Saturday, and he's fine with it. But a few days later she got in trouble so she couldn't go, to which I said was completely fine, I understood. So I ask her if she wants to go get coffee or something across the street after school, and she say's she'd like to. The day before we planned to go, when my dad is driving me to school, he tells me "So me and your grandma have come up with the conclusion that you're too young to be dating." (I go to my grandmas' house after school since my dad is working and we live far from the school, which is why he brought her into it) And when he said it, I was purely furious. I had never yelled at my dad, and despite how much I wanted to yell at him about everything, I didn't. To me it seemed like he didn't care. It takes me all day for it to sink in. I was still mad, and still wanted to go after school with A.
The day me and A are gonna go to Starbucks, during English class, she calls her mom and it turns out she was getting her hair done after school, so she couldn't go. It was then that I felt mental pain and sadness, and I go home and try to shake it off. The next day, I noticed her hair was darker.
Once again, I ask her if she wants to go to get coffee after school. She said she was busy. I started to wonder if she had just made that up, but then again, he hair was darker when she said she was getting her hair done so I let it slide by without too much thought.
A week goes by, and still she hasn't talked to me about anything. On a Wednesday, I ask her one more time if she wants to go to Starbucks the next day, which was a Thursday. She said "I'm going to my dad's this weekend." I replied "Oh, alright then." It was then I sort of got the message that she didn't wanna hang out, she had probably made it up. Her not being able to go with me after school on a Thursday because of her going to her dad's that weekend which was a Friday didn't make any sense. So that's where I gave up on it. But it didn't exactly end there.
One day one of my good friends texts me saying "I have something that might interest you, one of your friends like A and want's to ask her out but wants to be sure if you'll be okay with it." I ask who it was, he wouldn't tell me. So a few hours goes by and my friend reveals that he's the one who wants to ask A out. I consider this, if she says yes, then she wouldn't have been worth it, since she knew I had liked her not 2 weeks before. I don't really know what to say and don't reply. After another hour I tell him to go ahead and go for it. He doesn't go through with it because he knew I still liked her.

Over the next few months, I still lingered over her, which I know I shouldn't have but I still did. And just earlier this month, it turns out she now has a boyfriend, which I didn't really know what to think of. But right now, I'm almost over the whole thing, which I guess is good.

So I've shared my story, it might be rather long but I did. And it all makes me wonder, has something similar to this happened to anyone? Not exactly along the lines of every word here, but similar even in a small way.
Took me a while to type, gonna go get my half hour of sleep before school now :(
