Both cars are really nice. best thing to do if possible is test drive both of them then decide.

As Mattie said. May I suggest too though, that if you really did have that budget, you'd probably end up with a fairly basic-equipped car. You may want to shop near-new, or find a slightly lower-priced car which you can specify with a few more luxuries.
Have you looked at the brand new Ford Fusion Titanium or a newish E90 330i?

If I were you, I would get the Beemer. They are known for their reliability being better than Mercedes; which is important because do you know how much repairs cost on luxurious European cars? A LOT! My other key point is performance. BMW's are faster! I also think BMW's look really cool.

Get the Subaru wrx sti it's turbo charged a wheel drive plus has a great leather interior plus it's one of the best cars for the money and probably one of the most used rally cars

You also have to think about insurance costs. You'll probably have to pay for that too, or correct if I'm wrong about that. Also, do you want your first car to be luxury, with the risk of being inexperienced, I would go for a lower-end model if I were you, or take a parents old car, and let them buy a new one.

go for the mercedes, if you can actually afford it  I own a mercedes, and actually planning to buy another. Though be prepared with both vehicles that you may not get over 25mpg. So I would suggest finding one that does not have a V8 engine in it, I've owned a 5 liter V8 and their 4.2 Liter V8. Both never got me over 23 mpg. Also something else to keep in mind, that shop fees are tripled, so any repair that needs done to either vehicle will cost astronomically. Constant maintenance is needed for both, so if you get one, try and get a warranty, powertrain especially because if something goes fucked up and believe me, you never think it will, but then it does. So cover your ass. Try and take good care of it and it should take good care of you, but good luck finding a half decent model mercedes with less than 100,000 miles on it within the past couple years. Their prices for them can be pretty scary to look at, but not impossible :) have fun, be safe and drive carefully :P

if you want looks, which you probably would judging by how much money you can spend, get the Mercedes. It also has a bigger engine, therefore is more powerful.
if you want to save money or be kinder to the environment, get the bmw, as it's smaller engine uses less fuel. (but you wouldn't need to save money...)
Also, try not to show off...

Wow! Lucky dude! I would get the bmw. My dad has a 2011 535xi and it's a blast to drive, so I would definitely recommend that, I also never knew they had a 320i. IMO it seems a bit underpowered. Then again, mileage must be great, I drive our extra car (2012 Tahoe) and I pay like $80 a week for gas.

I would personally choose a Benz, but that is only because my family are huge promotors of Mercedes-Benzs. We've bought them for almost 20 years straight. Mercedes benz has always been percieved as a luxury brand, and dont always pay attention to making a car sporty, unless you choose an AMG. But for someone in High School, sporty is much more popular than luxury. Specially, lets face it, we want girls and girls like sexy cars! A base BMW 3 series is nicer than a base C-class in terms of sportyness. My neighbor has a 2003 M3 and it looks really new. I've checked the resale value and they are around $35,000.
So for used sports car, choose a BMW.
If you could choose a new sports car, I would reccomend a 2013 C-class AMG. They are much nicer than competing new BMWs

Honestly, with that budget, you should consider getting a brand new middle class (Honda, Toyota, etc) car that's loaded with major nice stuff, or a used few year old luxury car. Add one are costly on BMWs and Mercedes. You could only get the most basic BMW or Mercedes. But, if you want the name of the BMW or Mercedes, then go with one of those. Especially if you're trying to impress your school mates, they wouldn't care if you have the basic Mercedes/BMW, they would just look at the brand.

What do you want out of the car? Performace, economy, luxury, usability?
The new Mercedes CLA is just around your price range might be something to check out

Okay one, I get good grades, my parents don't give me 30 fucking grand to spend on a car. Little bit spoiled.
Two, why are these even your choices. If you have 33,500 get an STR4 and trick that shit out. Turbo, boost, overdrive, I don't know. But a "luxury" car is nothing compared to STR's.

SRT4.
Also. Turbo and boost are the same thing, and overdrive is basically cruising gear in a transmission.
I know they have a huge following, but Neons in general are ugly, cheap cars. Yeah the SRT4 is quick, but still is nothing compared to a 335i or something else like that that can be had for less than $33,500.
Honestly, the CLA and the 320i are both pretty good cars. And while BMW and Mercedes aren't known for their reliability, they're under warranty anyway. If it were me, however, I'd go with a slightly used/CPO BMW 335i. I just couldn't own a 4 cylinder BMW, even if the N20 is a great engine.

If I had those two choices I'd pick the BMW. I still like Audi more than either of those brands though 8)

Not if it's properly modified! Forged parts and what not, there's supras running upto 1000bhp that are still kinda reliable!

Yes but you can't get it properly modified to that extent for that price so....BOOM! haha :P

You can buy one that has been modified to that extent for the price though:) people that modify them sell them at a fraction of the price

Get a Toyota, if it's sold in America it is made in America. They have 5 100% cars, that's all parts and assembly, the rest are around 90%. Support America.

They are here. Toyota opened up plants all over the US including plants to make all the parts. So if you by a Toyota in America it was made in America. They don't outsource like our American brand name. So like the Corolla is made in Tupelo, Mississippi and so are the parts, 100% American made. So the name might be foreign but the car is American made if it's sold here.

Well I'll be damned. Over here they are assembled in our factories but not made (design and parts etc). Wierd how it's different.

Did you know that all toyotas sold in America are made in America and that includes parts. Including parts and metal, they have more Americans hired than any other company. They have 5 cars 100% made, and the rest are 95%. Ford has 1 100% car and the rest run around 75% because the parts are made in mexico, including the engines.

Abby is right, I Googled this after my post (which turned out to be wrong) and found these sites.
Never would have seen that in the top 3 American cars, two Japanese brands are in it:

Fast forward 3 years: I'm now 18, graduated and ended up getting a 2014 BMW 328i. Specs: sport package, Melbourne red color w, black & red stitched leather, black shadow package (blacked out grill and mirrors), BMW connected drive w/nav & touch pad, & finally the best part: xenon headlamps!!

It depends on how good a driver you are. The bmw can be a handfull where the mercedes is easier to control. There are fare more accidents involving young people and bmws than with mercedes.
I hope you dont get angry with me for saying this, but if youre not interested in cars enough to be able to choose, I think youre not a brilliant driver. For your safety I therefore recommend you get the mercedes.

I'll be totally honest with you, I haven't sat in a 320i, but I have been in my friends C250 and driven it. If I had to choose, I'd tell my parents to let me use it on something else.
The 320i is not a very luxurious vehicle, just from reading BMW's description of it. If you went all out on the features it's not even worth it for the model it is. The C250 IS very nice. Like, very very very nice. They punch you in the face when the turbo spools, the brakes are great, and it's comfy. However, working on them isn't fun. In fact, other than maint. there's no reason to ever have the hood up. And trust me, when the hood is up it's not cheap. A set of wipers OEM is more than 50 dollars. Things go wrong, my friend has almost destroyed his driveshaft and I'm still compelled to believe it's not working right (sounds like shards of glass in a jar being rotated), a simple oil change is unbelievable (over 200 for independent) and you can't do it yourself because of their SRI (service reminder indicators) which you need to hook up a scan tool to clear, otherwise you're going to have a very annoying notification to get your car serviced.
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhowever, if you really don't care about any of what I just said, go C250.
Just remember, for that money you could have an older ///M series, a brand new Mustang GT, a Miata ND, or a Charger/Chally. Also, buying the lowest end European luxury vehicle is one of the dumbest things you could do.
