For people who have laptops (not counting touch screen laptops) like me -- do you use a mouse or the touchpad (or both at whatever appropriate times)?
I always use the mouse. I hate the touchpad, it hurts my fingers, and it's so hard to use.
...if I ever take my laptop out with me, I always bring my mouse

I don't use either on my laptop. I just use the little mouse nub thingy (I have no idea what you are meant to call it).

I have to use a mouse. Touchpads are terrible for gaming.
Then again, that's only when I use a laptop, which is rarely.

Definitely touch pad. Although sometimes I use a mouse on my mom's laptop because her touchpad doesn't have a scroll thing on the side like mine does, so it's just easier to use the wheel on the mouse to scroll than to have to use the arrow keys or the button or whatever.

Is it a red thing in the middle of the keyboard? if yes I've seen those on laptops at my high school and they are even worse than a touchpad.

The trackpad works fine for me. I use both, but prefer a mouse, unless it's scrolling through massive amounts of text, in which case I prefer a trackpad.

Depends what I'm doing. I find myself using my trackpad 70% of the time for daily/normal use, a mouse 20% (CAD/modeling and design work) and my tablet, which usually ends up in so much frustration I give up and switch back to my trackpad :)

Yes it is one of those. I find them easier to use than a trackpad.

How are they easier to use? They're so tiny. I guess we disagree on this :P

Mouse, no doubt about it. Have you tried playing games with the pad?

Reminds me of this Xkcd comic:

I have one on my laptop, but it's not red. Everyone always asks me what it is because not many laptops have them. I don't know how anyone can stand using one.

I only have laptops so I use trackpads. I used to use a mouse but they eventually break or start doing weird things.

I use a mouse on my desktop, and my touchpad on my macbook (unless I'm using photoshop)... I really like the Multitouch trackpad on the newer Apple Laptops.
