I have just recently started cutting and I also have my first class of PE on friday. I always wear a long sleeve shirt or a jacket to cover up my arms so people dont see the cuts. But in PE i have to wear a short sleeve shirt. Ive tried to keep the cut contained into a 4 inch long part of my upper right forearm but the cuts are getting so cramped together that i will probably have to go further. I am thinking of just covering it with a bandage or gauze and then taping it and saying i burnt my arm on a hot pan while distracted by the tv. Any other thought?

I dont think it would work for scabs and fresh cuts...it probably would for scars but the scars i have are covered by even more cuts

Some solutions :)

Can you wear a jacket?
Use some makeup: Powder might work, but if you're sweating it might wear off. But you can use moist-type makeups.

Sorry, that's all I got :) Good luck!

Since you can't wear long sleeves, try as you said use a bandage.

You could try covering the cuts with bracelets or bands, but otherwise wearing long sleeves or a bandage like you said should work.

I think the easiest way is to straight up talk to your teacher, only after you become friends with him/her, they will let you wear a long sleeve and not tell people such as councelors or mental help ect. You just need to have a little faith!

Hmmmmm it could depend upon what they look like. When I wore uniform at school the jumpers were hideous so I often rolled up my sleeves accidentally, llike subconsiously, so people would see and say things like 'What happened to you arm?!' So I'd make up some far fetched or elaborate story. Like yeah this giant squirrel came chasing after me and then... Yeah I got good at making it up on the spot. I always tended not to use plasters or bandages because it draws more attention to it. Then if you look like you're trying to cover it, then it looks more suspiciously like self harm. Maybe I just analyse it too deeply though!

I know some people won't approve of this so I'm sorry in advance, but I occasionally made (ironic) self harm jokes. Like 'Yeah I was feeling really depressed', smiling, then people think you're joking, it's fab. I appreciate that some people are too sensitive for that though.

Take care :)

Using a bandage actually works, i dont think anyone suspects anything. I just said i burnt myself on my arm really badly while moving a hot pan to the sink cuz i was distracted by the tv. It is in the spot right where it would probably burn if it did happen, i also said that the burn was really bad because the next time i had PE everyone was like "your arm is still burnt!" And i just played it off like it was a really bad burn, but now i cant cut anymore because i cant keep a bandage on the same place forever. Which really sucks because cutting helped me deal with the pain and crap in the world, and now i cant do it. Ugh

Hi Adam. You won't be able to hide them forever, eventually someone is gonna twig what's going on. Is there a friend or family member you can trust to talk to? If so, then talk to them about why your self harming. The sooner you get some help, the sooner you'll overcome the issues your having. Skin is dynamic, and extremely elastic at a young age, the chances are, providing your cuts aren't too deep, they will eventually even out and dissipate with time. If you keep doing it though... It'll get to the point where the scars become permanent, it takes a skilled Plastic Surgeon and skin grafts from your thigh to fix permanent scars! Not a nice thought...

Yeah, the cuts have almost completely healed now since about a week and a half ago when i last cut. There are still big scabs but theywill be fine. The scars are pretty evident though, i just dont really feel like trying to hide them or trying to help. Ive gotten to the pooint where i literally dont want to try at most things, i just dont know what to do anymore. I feel like my end might be coming soon. I dont know though, everything is just so tiring: having to put on a happy face and crack jokes all the time so people arent affected by my crappy life.

Man, it seems like this thing about hiding your cuts have turned into a whole new kind of problem. As far as hiding the cuts wear a hoodie or long sleeved shirt that's what I did when I first cut myself and I had PE... but at the same time wearing a long sleeved shirt working out in PE almost made me faint. Still life isn't worth ending before your time, you can pull through this rough time it will get better don't worry...

cover up works for scars but not scabs. you can probably wear a sweatshirt or something over your shirt. you said its on your upper forearm? try wrapping it and say you have a bum elbow or something.

That's really awesome! I know I'm a stranger to you but I'm so proud of you! It's hard to quit and even harder to stay away. I think you can do it though. Keep it up! You're doing great. :)

Uhmm look I'm not trying to encourage cutting AT ALL, but as a cutter, I found that cutting legs (usually thighs) is much easier to hide. That's what I do in p.e., and no one notices...

When I'm in PE I always wear a long-sleeved black shirt under the school t-shirt. None of the teachers have ever said anything, and when a student asks, I just say, "Feeling a bit cold."

Good luck!
