Why can't the Mental Illnesses forum have a sub-forum for us teens on the autism spectrum?

I don't really think it's needed. A thread about autism would be fine in the Mental Illnesses forum.

Yeah, as Bo said, it's not really needed. You can make a thread about it if you need to, and there's a sticky about it here (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=89690).

Actually, I think it is needed. A lot of people have Autism (and Asperger's Syndrome), and it would be beneficial to those with it to make friends and express problems they have had. We have a Schizophrenia sub-forum, I think we ought to have an Autistic one, considering it is more common (1 in 88 in the US). I'm for this suggestion.

I have to agree with the above, I can definitely see it as a possibility here. While I don't think it'd be too active, it would likely still get some traffic.

Well, I personally think that an autism forum is a good idea, but technically speaking ASD is not a mental illness (it's a mental disorder) so maybe it should be separate from the MI forum and just in the general PW.

Even if it isn't technically a mental illness, it won't really get all that much traffic. I can see it happening, just as a subforum in Mental Illness'.

Fair point. Just saying.

Oh, no, I hadn't meant to come across as rude. I was just trying to express my point. My apologies if it came off as rude.

No, not at all. I'm too hung up on semantics anyway. You're right, despite the number of autistic members the forum probably won't get a lot of traffic.

What's the difference between a mental illness & a mental disorder? They both interfere with your ability to live a normal life & to make & keep friends.

I just googled it, and I do believe that they are the same thing.

I.. what???
Soo, ADD/ADHD aren't mental illnesses and don't belong their either?
No.
Honestly, if you're gonna pull the "no traffic", look at the posting in the other MI subforums. They're all under 15 pages long.
Completely support this idea. Autism/Aspergers (I think I misspelled that but spellcheck is suggesting "supergrass") can be a huge hindrance and I'm kinda shocked someone would honestly say it's not even a problem

I'm really confused here..I'm saying it should be a subforum?
