Do you think kids should get Martin Luther King day completely off of school? Do you think they should do service projects? Have to sit through a day devoted completely to learning about him (this would get redundant over the years)?

I'm happy with a day off. I love mlk because without him, we'd probably still be in a racist society with a lot more dbags, and violence.

I agree with this. ^ He did a lot for African-American rights, he changed society, because nowadays, racism is rare, and a lot of the credit goes to him for that.
He deserves a day dedicated to him, so everyone can remember, and thank him for what he did. So, yeah, I don't see anything wrong with a day off from school on MLK day. I think it's justified, because of everything he did.
Like I said, he deserves a day completely dedicated to him.

We are a racist society. Women of color earn much less than white women do. Even though the vast majority of drug users in the US are white, nearly all arrests made for drug possession are against black men. Because non-whites have an average lower income - due not only to unequal wages but also due to racial bias shown by employers - they are forced to live in dangerous neighborhoods. I can give a ton more examples but suffice it to say that while Rev. King did amazing things and was a strong figure who has every right to his own day, he did not end societal racism.

I think that getting the day off school is fine.

Yeah because the school year is too long.

I think that it's just fine, and it also serves as our off day for Black History Month.

Also, some of my best friends are black. I don't give a fuck about skin color. Whoever does is just missing the point.

A day off is fine. It's been like this with my school district and college for a long time

Just a day off.
Our district still takes the day off for Columbus Day, President's Day and some "minor" religious holidays where they observe a fast or something else for their worship.

They never made us learn about Columbus or all of the President's on those days, they took care of that during the course of schooling. If we want to learn about the religion days, better ask them or google.

Yes, as MLK is an important man that achieved and did a lot to make the US a better place.
