The internet has been abuzz over a Daily Mail article, "Wanted: ‘Adventurous woman’ to give birth to Neanderthal man — Harvard professor seeks mother for cloned cave baby." The Havard professor is geneticist George Church who denies that he is currently pursuing any such research. Church is the mastermind behind the Personal Genome Project* that is aiming to sign up 100,000 people willing to provide their genomes and medical histories to researchers.

....can't we just leave them extinct? I don't see why they're doing this.

I don't know why, but something just doesn't sit right with me about this science experiment. In the past years, they have cloned animals, but those animals were in terrible health, and didn't survive that long.
What makes scientists think that this won't happen to the Neanderthal? Just doesn't seem very ethical or moral to me...

It's being done for curiousity and that alone, think. If you were able to talk to someone from the 18th century and show him how the world has evolved, chances are you'd do it just because you can.

Most clones have good health now...
I don't particularly agree with it, but i think it needs to be done for research, even health research as they would be immune to some diseases etc. but of course he will be locked up being studied all his life so... not so good

Supposedly Neanderthals are of higher intelligence, they want to resurect one to find out, not to mention it would be pretty cool to meet our ancestor from the evolutionary chain.
He woudn't neccessarily have to be locked up his entire life, they might let him go to school and things like that I say if we do it, we raise him like a modern human and they would just send him in for testing every so often. doesn't produce as great results but at least he would be able to live a more modern life.

So we can rub our art in their face and make their drawings look like crap... that is why we need them...
