1. It depends on your age. If you are 18 or older, then your doctor doesn't have to tell your mother. You should tell her, though.
2. I can't say for sure, I've never been kept in inpatient.
3. I'm pretty sure you can. The professionals I work with have had similar problems to us when they were younger.

1. If I tell my doctor about my cutting can she tell my mom? It depends what age you are, 18 and above they can't without your permission.
2. I don't know if I should seek help. If I do then my mother will put me in a psych ward. Is it worth it? I've been in a psych ward, and was only in there not for the self harming side of it but the high risk of suicide. I highly doubt they would put you in a pysch ward, not straight away at least, but give you as much treatment outside hospital.
3. Could I become a psychologist with a psych record? Of course you can, if anything the problems you have will help in experience with other people.

1. If I tell my doctor about my cutting can she tell my mom-well that all depends on if your doctor thinks its a risk your mom should be aware of.. and also your age

2. I don't know if I should seek help. If I do then my mother will put me in a psych ward. Is it worth it?- yes if you feel your a harm to yourself and your mom thinks so too i believe it would be in your best interest to consider it... to get proper help..care.. and treatment

3. Could I become a psychologist with a psych record- anything is possible really.. there are people who came off of the street or have been in jail and woke up one day and decided they wanna change their life.. and have and have become stuff like a psychologist or police officer... or lawyers etc

1) That depends on quite a few things. If you're under 18 there's a chance she will tell your mum (this could depend on where you live as well, different countries have different laws), but even then she might not if you ask her not to. If she doesn't think it's something your mum needs to be aware of, she might not, but self harm is the kind of thing that makes doctors think you might be a risk to yourself without being suicidal. It's not that hard to do a lot more damage than you intended.

2) I'm going to talk about this "psych ward" thing first. Just because you self harm, it doesn't mean your mental health is bad enough to be "put in a psych ward." Self harm doesn't mean you have mental health problems either, it's just a way that some people cope with these issues, so it does indicate a mental health problem, but it's not always the case. There's so much stigma around mental health that people think that as soon as you have a problem doctors lock you up and throw away the key, but that's not the case at all. A lot of the time people will try and avoid hospitalisation because of the cost unless it's absolutely necessary.
Now on to the "is it worth it" part. Yes, it's always worth getting help. Trying to get better on your own is so hard, it makes things easier if you have support around you to help you. I don't know what your situation is so I can't say if you'll see a therapist or a councellor or a psychiatrist, it all depends, but the first place to go would be to your parents or to a GP.

3) Yes. No one can see your medical records so they won't know anyway, and even if they did they can't discriminate against you because of that.

Well, these have been answered mostly already, but I got a bit to add.

1. The age of consent in the United States in most states (you'll have to research yourself, or say what state/country you're from, as it varies) is 14. So she could not tell your mom. However, if she had good reason to believe that you were going to kill yourself or harm others, by law, regardless, she would have to tell.
2. You should totally seek help. Your mom might try and put you in a psych ward, however they might discharge you or whatnot because they don't feel like you're at risk, it all depends on how honest you are (be 100% honest, no matter what...) and what else is going on besides just self-harm/why you do it/whatever.
3. No reason why not - might even help you, since you'll have a good incite.

Best of luck to you. <3

1. If I tell my doctor about my cutting can she tell my mom? Like everyone has said above, it depends on your age. If you're under eighteen and your doctor believes that you're in danger, they will most likely tell your mom. However if you're over eighteen then the doctor probably has to keep patient confidentiality.
2. I don't know if I should seek help. If I do then my mother will put me in a psych ward. Is it worth it? You should probably seek help if you have the courage to. It might not feel like it now, but it would definitely be worth it in the end.
3. Could I become a psychologist with a psych record? I don't see why you couldn't: It would actually probably make you a better psychologist if you know what your patients are experiencing first hand.
I hope that everything goes well for you, best of luck.

the doctor can only tell your mother if he/she fears for your safety
I think you should come clean with your mother yourself :) before she finds out the hard way. continue to get therapy and seek help so you get better :)

Thanks :) I live in the U.S. I feared admittance because last year when my sister ran my mother took her to UH's psych ward.
