View Full Version : Bronies are gay?

Okay, so I am a brony. Not sure how many of you know that (Andy, Blake, and Ronnie do for sure). My mother does as well. Now she told me that being a brony is equivalent to being gay. I'm sorry, but since when does liking a show, regardless of what its premiss is reveal your sexuality? It doesn't. Nor should it ever be perceived to. I just don't see why people have to be locked in to their genders so much. They expect men to like monster trucks and shooting games and violence. They expect women to like cooking and cleaning and pink. If a girl likes to play Call of Duty, she is not instantly singled out as gay due to liking something usually played by the opposite gender, so why is it that when a boy watches a show with ponies in it they instantly become socially shunned and called gay? I don't get it. Feel free to argue with me though, I'm in the mood for a debate.

I have been in the same shit as you are.
Brony for life here :)
(Are you part of the herd on VT?)
Give me a rootbeer, and let me have 5 minutes to talk to your mom and I'll prove to her that bronys can't be labeled gay in about 7 different logical ways. :p
Do you have any brony friends from school?
It helps if you have a group.

That's really stupid. As you said, liking "feminine" things does not have anything to do with your sexual orientation. The reason people think that it does is because of the narrow definition of masculinity that dictates that (and I completely disagree with this) gay men are less manly/masculine than hetero men. The gender role idea extends so that if a man does deviate otherwise from the idea of masculinity as society has defined it, then they will be associated with the other purported characteristics of a non-masculine ma. In other words, assumed to be gay.
It's bullshit, but it's not a personal failing on your mother's part. It's a cultural thing.

It's just a stupid stereotype, it's not true. Sexuality is determined solely by physical and emotional attraction. Simple as that. :)

It's a group. I'm only on mobile, so you'll have to ask or pm Lyra Heartstrings (Blake) about it :)

You basically just said what I meant to say, but you said it way better than I did :D
Thanks for this reply, now there should be absolutely no confusion as to what I mean in the original post.

I don't think that people realize 'gay' means attraction to the same sex, not people who like My Little Pony. Both genders are pressured by the stereotypes the media has created and twisted into the problem it is now.

the only thing that can make you gay is if you like cock.

well I don't think anyone could be judged gay by their likes or dislikes
but i don't really see how this could turn into a debate as there isn't a legitimate argument for the other side

homosexuality- having sexual feelings exclusively for the same gender.
A brony isnt homo.
A person like me, fits except the word exclusively.

Yeah it's ridiculous how some people think just because you like something that "supposedly" is for the opposite gender, you're gay or whatever.

It doesn't.
That's only some of the fan art people make. The actual show has no sexual references at all.

I don't know what a brony is.
People probably think its weird for a guy to like watching a show about Ponies because ponies are seen as girly or what not. It's dumb how they think what you watch determines your sexuality. I know a similar situation, it's like when people think you're/its gay if you take baths, when it isn't at all. Football players take baths to soothe muscles. And baths are relaxing. But I don't take them that much, and if I do, I have to take a shower before I take a bath.

..I got mentioned a lot here. And nobody told me about this thread. Assholes.
Prepare for a Blake rant which is usually not Gramatically correct or long.
I never understood why people immediately associate liking a show for girls with homosexuality. I have plenty of straight, male friends who fawn over the movie Mean Girls. Hell, it's a great movie. We regularly discuss it in front of other people in real life. Never once have we been called gay, or been called a faggot, or anything of the sort. However. If I wear one of my pony shirts in public, I get jeered. It is a bandwagon to hate Bronies. Just like it is a bandwagon to like the show. The Internet is filled with stupidity. And really, there is nothing wrong with liking the show. People don't want to be rejected. So they either like the show and hate the haters, or dislike the show and love the haters. It's stupid.
tl;dr bandwagons suck.

Without ponies, I'd probably have gone down a long dark path probably leading to... well... bad things. That was last year. It brought happiness to my life for the first time in years. I will always love mlp, long after there are no new episodes. (Which will hopefully be never)
Your shirt, wear it proud! :)
I need to get some... hot topic right?

*Disclaimer* I do NOT agree with the stereotype. It's dumb.
I don't think it's solely the fact that it's for girls, but mainly that it's for little girls. Children. No, watching it doesn't make you gay, but people seem to think it does because it's a little kids show, mainly geared towards girls. Personally, I don't think it makes someone gay because that's just silly. i think it just makes them seem a little immature and whatnot. I mean, I watch my old disney and winnie the pooh movies sometimes, but it's more the whole nostalgia for my childhood thing than actually enjoying the content. I just don't understand the fad.
But the difference between Mean Girls and MLP is that one is made for teenagers, one is made for children. The gender roles plays a huge part in it too, as you probably wouldn't be called gay if you were watching... uh, some kids show for boys haha. In our society gay = feminine, so when someone enjoys something that's been deemed feminine, people assume they're gay. Of course that's not true. One of the toughest guys I know is gay. And most of the gay guys I know would never go near the show, of course, they're all over 18.
Then there's the whole "Brony" thing which doesn't help at all. To me that term is like when people call themselves a Belieber or a Directioner. It just sounds ridiculous.

This all sounds new to me. I mean my girlfriend who is like the girliest girl ever plays a lot of call of duty and calls people "retarded." That's just one side of who she is. Just because you like My Little Pony doesn't determine your manhood or sexuality one bit. My point is that your mom is overestimating the situation. Or she might be just poking fun at you. I don't know. All the best,

My sister told me when I was 8 that eating skittles would make me gay. I tasted the rainbow, but i'm pretty straight.
Ummm, in other news, a television show has been proven to change one's sexuality. :lol2: No, that doesn't happen. Sexuality is like race; ya can't change it, and watching a show won't change it either, crazies. Op, your mom sounds entertaining though.:P
