From what I was told, it really depends on your family history. My family has a history of breast cancer, so I do them already at 16. I generally do it after my period while I'm in the shower.

I reach my arms up one by one above my head and then with 2 fingers palpate all along the inner tissues and such to feel for any odd lumps
I haven't had a breast exam since I was 16 anyways
It's recommended you get a professional breast exam atleast once a year and any other time do it yourself and if your concerned call you doctor

as for when you should start most say once you have started puberty. For how to do a self exam there are plenty of videos on the Internet that show how it should be done if you don't want to have a doctor show you. When you should do it is pretty much up to you but i recommend that you pick a day about a week to 10 days after your period has ended because hormonal changes due to the menstrual cycle may make the breasts more lumpy or swollen which is true in my case. I do them standing in front of my mirror in the bathroom but it's up to you lying down i here is ok as well. my friend does her's in the shower.

I do mine every other month or so. I have a full length mirror in my bathroom, so I do it there standing up usually after my shower so I'm comfortable.

It's actually really important. Self exams have saved many lives. Reconsider it, for your own sake. <3

I do it in the shower, before and after my period. I found a lump once. Non-cancerous though, thank God!

I thought one should be like 20ish when they did this. No one in my family had breast cancer. I don't think that means anything tho.

As a teen is good to learn the proper way to do it for when you get older. You can find how to do it from a doctor, nurse or maybe your own mom.At school they showed us how to do it during a girls only class. You can go on to YouTube and find videos also.

It's really important especially with a family history of any cancer - school nurse showed us how (the boys had to go do something similar elsewhere lol) and as you can imagine it was pretty funny with a room full of girls feeling our chests - but we learned a lot and remembered it that way

I learned at school from the nurse too. She said that once you reach puberty you should check regularly. So I usually check in the shower using a mirror when I'm between periods.

It's no big deal and could save you major problems in future.

I'm so sorry. The computer was playing up and I didn't realise I'd already sent the message twice before. If anyone can tell me how to delete two of these messages I will do it. Sorry again.

We had a video in health class and also some handouts and pamphlets. I check in between my periods also.

I check right after and right before my period. I find it that's the best time to do it. I learned how to at a doctor's appointment.
