Recently there have been people who have been fired from their jobs due to their Christian beliefs. What is your view on how religions should/shouldn't be able to express what they believe in?

I believe that anyone can work anywhere just as long as their beliefs don't affect their job.

This pretty much sums it all up on my personal feelings.
But some people are just insane. My first day of work, my co-worker "tattled" on me (that's the only way I can describe her actions) to have my name changed to Chris on my nametag. Why? She's a non practicing muslim and the fact that Christ is in the first half of my name makes her very uncomfortable. I don't understand it nor do I want to. I just thank the manager for making sure we never work the same day together.

everything should be secular, so no one asks about religion and no one cares

Yeah, that's bullshit. An occupation, and a religion are 2 completely different things.
There is absolutely no correlation betweeen them whatsoever.
I think it's outrageous that somebody got fired, just because of their beliefs.
That's discrmination.

This
Unless a job requires you to be a certain religion - and I can't think of one -- it shouldn't matter whether you're Muslim, Christian, or have no religion

It shouldn't matter, unless you use your religion as an excuse to harass or abuse your coworkers. I also think you should be able to be fired if your beliefs stop you from being able to execute the requirements of the job.

Elaborate on this, because 'due to their Christian beliefs' isn't really detailed. Could you maybe tell or show us a news article showing something about these fired people? Did they get fired solely because they were Christians or did they do something to get fired? Like shove religion down someones throat? Or something else?

I'm presuming that you mean in the work force? Well, as others have already said, as long as it's not interfering with job performance, then it's fine. Like for example if a woman has to wear a hijab. Obviously that doesn't interfere, or it shouldn't. Even if someone comes with some type of jewelry with a religious symbol (on their body - not on their desk or any other public object in the work place) then that should be alright as well. If it gets to the point religion is actually interferes with the work place i.e. people shoving religion, arguments, etc. then they should be fired.
Last week I showed a presentation on Dutch society and the real facts of marijuana and prostitution within the country. One teacher that I showed it to obviously didn't like the facts that I showed and she started quoting bible quotes and saying how Amsterdam is like Sodom and Gomorrah in the Bible. She basically shoved her religious views down my throat. I am not religious and I didn't tolerate her religious remarks, because a school should be a secular place - one where no religion favors over another religion (or non-religion) and faculty should not express their religious beliefs in an argumentative or forceful way. She no longer has her job today. Though it probably wasn't only because of my project. Apparently she had continuously "harassed" people about their religious views and tried to force hers upon others many times before.

As a person who is for equal rights, I believe places of occupation and education should always remain secular. Therefore no expression of religious beliefs of any kind should be allowed.

I believe in the freedom of religion, but not exactly religious expression. If they were acting AGAINST other religions in their line of work, then yeah they shouldve been fired.

I don't know what you're talking about man. In fact, the place I work called Pizza Ranch is a Christian based buffet.. They even play Christian music where everyone eats. It's kind of ridiculous. They do the same thing at Chickfila and I'm sure there's many other Christian run businesses like this. Personally, I just don't like it because it's just shoving beliefs in you face. The music, signs on the wall every where talking about spreading Christianity, just :l It's actually the complete opposite where I work. You'd get in trouble for having different beliefs or lack thereof beliefs if you're not Christian. I mean they don't ask you in the interview whether you're Christian or not, but if you complain about the religious material or music playing.... just something not to do. I mean, I love making money, the job gives me a living so I don't starve and die, but what they stand for is different to me.
