View Full Version : Is this normal?

Okay, this is something that's really bugging me.
Re-using towels that haven't yet been cleaned.
When we take showers in my house we throw the towels over the banister to dry out, and basically anytime I go to get a fresh towel my mother gives out to me and makes me use one that someone else used earlier. She says using a fresh one is a waste or something. We have loads of towels though.
I really hate doing that, I know the person who used it was straight out of the shower and all, but for God's sake they rubbed it all over their naked body. There's no way to know who used it.
Plus, it seems to only be me who is caught taking a fresh one. Like, when I go for a shower there is already 2-4 used towels on the banister, so obviously everyone else took a fresh towel.
I wouldn't have a problem re-using a towel if it was my own personal towel, but everyone just uses any towel. We even tried personal towels but my mum thought the idea was ridiculous and everyone just ended up mixing them up.
I'm pretty sure this isn't normal, and I hate it. Does anyone else do this? And what am I supposed to do? :what:

theres nothing wrong with being clean
in my honest opinion a towel should be replaced and washed every few days or once a week.... thats what i prefer only i cant afford doing laundry every week...
your just very cleanly and theres nothing wrong with over cleanliness

In my house I have my own towel/take a new one. Occasionally I'll use the one that's there if there isn't another. When I go to my friends, her family has 2 towels they keep in their bathroom and when I have to shower there she just tells me to use one of those. It's not pleasant to be fair, they stink cause they haven't been able to dry properly and ugh, it's just not a nice feeling. I can see where you're coming from completely. Why don't you keep one towel for yourself, if you need to, buy your own one. They don't cost all that much. Keep it in your room and just use that when you shower, tell the rest of your family it's yours and that you don't want them using it. Your mother can't take it away from you, especially if you buy it out of your own money, it shouldn't be that big a deal taking a fresh one anyway. Hopefully if it's just you that has a personal towel people won't be mixing it up. Maybe find another place to leave it to dry rather than on the banister with the rest of them?

We have our personal towels that we re-use until we need to wash them. Your mom's the ridiculous one. Do you have a chair or doorknob in your room? If you have a room to yourself, take the towel you've used, and keep it there on the chair or doorknob. Pretty much hoard your own towel.
Unless you guys put them on the banister because their soaking wet and dripping. Which is the only weird thing to me, my towel's damp at most after I get out of the shower but the water never like drips out of it. Then that wouldn't work.

We use a fresh towel every time any one of us takes a shower. We never reuse.

i will use the same towel until it smells and then i will replace it
the only reason a towel should stink is of the wetness of it being used
its not like your whiping your dirtiness all over it.. your just using it to dry your freshly cleaned body. i dont do my laundry my girl does that

I wouldn't really say that's "normal", but there are bound to be others who do this too.
Personally, everytime I get done taking a shower, I use a freash and clean towel.
So, I feel the same way you do. Using a towel that's been used by somebody else is kinda gross, and very unhygieinic.

Towels are designed to be reused. Your family are a bit of an ecological disaster area by the sound of it. No wonder there's global warning.

Hold on to that idea and I'll continue on with how I am used to living.

I am the same XD I hate having a bath cause i have no idea where the towel has been but i just get it over and done with and try not to think about it, But once i have my own place/live with my friend things will be different!
Also i need my own shower gel and bubble bath as i can't touch it thinking of where that persons hands has been then it is back on there!

This.
I don't want to dry off knowing the towel was used by someone else already. I live with my Mom and my sister, all girls here and so maybe this is why we did the things we do.
We still do the laundry once a week and it doesn't use anymore water than if we used seven towels in one week and shared them.

Actually, since my family is too dysfunctional to have a working laundry system (we basically throw whatever we want to wear the next day in), I do this often. You could just wash it in your own free time, maybe?

I personally use my own towel maybe 2 or 3 days in a row. Is there a way you can have your own towel rack or something? That way you always know which one is yours?

Your mum thinks using a different towel for each person is a stupid idea, but if you want your own towel just choose it.
You will use your own towel and they will use only one towel...
