we're going out for crab legs this weekend. I've only ever had them plain. my parents keep telling me to get them with Old Bay but i don't like way that smells so i don't think i'll like the way it tastes but idk. Are there other ways to order them besides plain and Old Bay? oh and I eat the meat in the "fingers" but what about what's in the "hand". can you eat that too?

I'm simple. I like mine lightly steamed with a little butter. I don't want to overpower the taste of the crab!

I love old bay, but for crab legs, plain with drawn butters. I love blue crabs to, they use old bay in maryland and I use vinegar with blues.

for blue crab don't you have to eat like the whole thing? or take it's face off or something? if it's just the legs I can do it but if i have to look it in the eye before I eat it idk

I'm not sure how you can't like Old Bay haha. But I'm from Maryland so the only crabs I'll eat are blue crabs with old bay

 i just watched 2 videos on how to take out the meat from a blue crab. you have to take apart the body and rip it open and the whole time it's looking at you like "why are you eating me? what did i ever do to you?" lol i'm too much of a wuss. i will stick to the big crab legs instead. :whoops:

Blue crabs are more of a social thing anyway, than a way to get a meal. You sit down over a big pile of crabs over the course of an afternoon and pick out the meat. Maybe dip the meat in some vinegar and some old bay, maybe some butter or garlic butter.
I actually prefer soft crabs, because I can be impatient, and with soft crabs no picking is necessary. And I love fried food.
In terms of steamed crab legs, I prefer king over snow crab, and butter and garlic all the way.

i don't know what you mean by soft crab. is that the blue crabs? i tried king crab. those things are scary big. like monster movie big. I like the taste of snow crab better. idk why. it's sweeter or something. plus easier to eat.

Oh, King Crab is just as sweet as snow crab (to me)... We live in crab country in MD, so this is part of our culture.
All crabs lose their shells once a year - in fact, lobsters do, too...
Generally, when you're talking about soft crabs (or "soft shell crabs") - you're talking about blue crabs that have lost their shells.
You can cook and eat them whole (well, you have to clean certain parts - but you don't have to crack a hard-shell in order to get the meat).
Where I live, what they do is they take the soft shell crab, and they'll either broil them, or, more commonly, batter or flour them up and fry them (like a piece of chicken).
So you get the crunchiness of the coating and the sweetness of the crab. It's awesome!
