I studied this book last year for my A Levels, and it's probably the most intriguing book I've ever read. I thought it was written beautifully.

My question is, have you read it, what did you think and are there any quotes you particularly love?

I read it two years ago for English class and I liked it. It's definitely not my favorite book; but it's written fantastically and takes place in a great time era to base a story in. I'm really excited to see the remake of the movie with Leo DiCaprio in it too :P

I haven't read it yet. I wanted to and almost did, but apparently it's going to be required reading for English next year, so I might as well wait.

I enjoyed reading that particular book though I wouldn't call it one of my absolute favorites. One of my favorite quotes that stuck with me was:

"In two weeks it'll be the longest day in the year... Do you always watch for the longest day of the year and then miss it? I always watch for the longest day in the year and then miss it."

Also I like Fitzgerald s message about how the American dream is dead due to it being corrupted by massive amounts of greed and desire wealth... and the great unethical lengths people go to, such as what Gatsby did.

When I read it for pleasure I enjoyed it, but I hated studying it. In class we analyzed it to the point that it became dull and lifeless. But I did like the part where the author is describing Myrtle.

I didn't really like it, I got bored with it really, but I think F. Scott Fitzgerald seemed like a really interesting man. Maybe I just didn't enjoy it because like you, I had to read it for college :p

However I think the final quotation of the book is one of the most beautiful quotations i've ever heard - "So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past".

I also like Daisy's quote of "I hope she'll be a fool- that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool". Think it says a lot, if not everything about Daisy as a character. She may seem like well, a fool, but I think it says a lot about what's behind that and I don't know, I just like that one :p Seems to speak a lot of truth.

I also really like the way that in the scene where Nick gets drunk with Gatsby and the Buchanans and the other couple that I forget the name of, the narration gets a lot more... hazy and indescript. It almost evokes the feeling of being drunk, and I just think it's really clever.

And of course like Mike, i'm really looking to seeing the lovely Leonardo Di Caprio as Gatsby :p
