View Full Version : Mood Updates on profile

I was thinking would it be possible to have a space on our profiles to display what our mood is.

I think it could be useful for a member to be able to display their mood as a way for others to see the state of mind their in when they post.

I don't know how this could be implemented but if it's possible it might be worth looking into.

Possible (I'm pretty sure there are mods for this) but not needed. VT is not Facebook. There's no point in adding a mood update....

Personally, I don't see this necessary. As mentioned, were not a social networking site, so I'm not sure it has a place here. Members could always post on their own wall if they really wanted to show a 'mood,' I suppose.

i actually like this idea.. because it could show who feels that they would like some help or who is feeling happy.

I don't exactly see how this is needed, and I can see why Jess and Steven don't want it, but I don't see how it would necessarily be a bad thing... What if it were just a drop-down box on the user's side, and it outputs that 'mood' to anybody else, say, where the 'last activity' part of a user's page is, underneath the profile picture?

I've seen this feature on other sites. It always annoyed me. If I want to post about my mood, i'll post about my mood, and sometimes, I don't want people to know what mood i'm in. It'd just annoy me.

I use this feature on both of my websites.
It is a very nice addition.

I don't think that I would like this... It seems pretty unnecessary.

Yeah, this is the one I've seen on other sites. I never found it annoying. You don't HAVE to use it. And it can be displayed over there

So it's pretty out of the way.

I've seen that plugin before, however it recently broke on the forum I go to that has it.

While I don't think its really needed.

It does give a forum a kinda retro look. I've seen them on a lot of old forums and they've always looked so daft. But I like the idea of having them, they look funny and give a forum a kinda retro look.

Great idea. Seeing how all we want to do as teens is be understood and express ourselves, this would at least let others know how we are feeling moment by moment

I really like this idea! It may not be needed as this site is a "Help and Advice" site. However there are people that just like to chat, I think it would only be an improvement.

good idea, it could maybe be next to our forum posts too

This gets suggested time and time again...

No. Not needed nor does the site require it to run. It's only another thing to go wrong.

The criticism always arrives in these threads (admittedly, I have made it,) that we are not a social networking site. The ultimate question is: why not? Is this not a site for lonely teenagers who want people to talk to? is that not social networking? The premise that we should not install updates that pertain to socially networking sites when we fit the definition almost exactly is bewildering.

Regardless, I don't see the feature as necessary and probably won't be popular with many. I can imagine I would not want to update my mood every time I felt different, least of all have it cluttering profiles/postbit with strange icons and descriptions of moods. Once a user reaches 2,500 posts he/she can change their user title to fit whatever they want, be it "Mood: OK" or "Mood: Angry" etc.

I think it would be a good idea and its not something everyone would have to change all the time. Maybe it could be something we can change in user cp to be there or not
