There will always be a serial number, according to the Beats Website. If I were you I'd get a refund if I was eligible for one. Have it checked thoroughly by a tech team at a computer store.

Great dexcription "the red box, and the blue ones" that gave us everything that we dont care about or need. what type are they? I don't think there is one directly on mine. If you got them from best buy, they are legit. Unless it was some ghetto best buy who can't afford anything.
And don't listen to the guy above me. I have beats and they are by far the best headphones I've ever had. Skull candy was no comparison between mine, the head cups are the most comfortable ones ever, super soft leather. If you want good sound, and good style. Then get the beats.
Ps. As from what I can tell, I don't see a serial number on my beats headphones either. But trust me, if they were some cheap knock off, they will feel like it. Mine are Studio.
The joker.

Well because for the money, you can get either
1) a better pair from another reputable brand
2) 2 pairs that are still better sound quality than beats

Other professional sound companies. Audio Technica makes some really great affordable headphones. I have a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M30s that are really kickass and got for just under $50. They're studio headphones, so they are built to not be used as a fashion statement and without travel in mind. The cable is 11', which gets annoying if you are planning on using them as a pair that you'll carry around with you.
I have also used their ATH-M50 brand, which are better than Beats. These do have a pricetag of $150, but it's worth it. The big difference between these and the M30's are that the cable is wound up, shortening the 11' to ~6' when not stretched out, bigger drivers (50mm vs 30mm), more padding, and they fold up (I believe).
If you're thinking of spending money on Beats, I would recommend the ATH-M50. They are less expensive but so much better in every way.
But, there's still others out there. Moral of this post: Beats are not the best, are nowhere near the best, and should never be thought of as the best.

I am disgusted by beats.
They have such unrealistic bass, the highs sound fake and the mids are lame. Not to mention the MASSIVE amount of harmonic distortion they produce through almost every pitch.
No ammout of equilizing will fix them.
Plus the fact that they are made out of shitty Chinese plastic and pot-metal.
Put a brand name on it, pay "famous artists" to say they're good, and then you sell them for a shit load of money and say that they're cool.
(And those new "DNA" things aren't any better.)
If you want REAL audio quality go with anything by audiotechnica, sennheiser, or ultrasone.

We don't want to really shut you down on buying beats, but you could of done better with the money. If you wanted the 'beats swagg', you could of bought a pair off of like dealextreme for $70 and they are identical to the studios.
But I agree, I'm a fan of Sennheiser and Audio technica myself and they never fail to produce high-quality stuff.
