I'm just wondering what everyone things about the government's plans to scrap January A level modules next year?

I can't decide what I think. I'm in year 13 now so i'm in the last year to have January modules at both AS and A2. In one respect I think it's a good thing. My January modules at AS I did terribly in, and I think that gave me the realisation that I wasn't going to pass my A levels the way I passed my GCSE's (with no work at all :p). But then on the other hand this year, January modules are putting me through a hell of a lot of stress and I just don't feel I had enough time to learn everything, study, and then do an exam. However on the other hand i'm not sure i'd like the idea of my whole A levels resting on the end of this year.

So, what's your opinion?

I prefer January exams, but this year the majority of my exams are in the summer. I have two coming up this month though, and I'm not stressing over it. I guess that's because I'm not going to uni. I think that if the January exams were to go, it wouldn't help the majority of people because they won't know what A levels are like if they do it all in the summer. This is more in regards to year 12's though, they take it easy and think it's not that hard but because they've done/are currently doing January exams they know it's a lot harder than before. They wouldn't have that experiance if the government gets it's way.

I see that side of it, but then I suppose the government will argue that mock exams can be given to make them realise this, but then I don't think mock exams would have made me realise anything.

I had to do mocks this year, but I didn't last year. They don't really help, but the government are stuck in the old age and think how they did exams will always be better than this system. If it isn't broken, I don't see why they need to change it.

Having finished my January exams, I think it makes sense to finish the work from the previous term and then move on, why make it harder for us by making us remember information for longer, realistically being teenagers we can't eat sleep and breathe school work and I most definitely would not do my best in a linear exam at the end of the summer term.

Well in year 12 I did 3 exams in January and ended up resitting two of them in June because I got A,D,E so I only actually got one out of the way in January. My point was that then in summer I had 6 exams, in which I got A,A,B,B,B,C So I did a lot better in June and I think that may have been due to the longer time to practice exam technique (4 months into year 12 you really have no idea) and because of the study leave.

But I do see your point :p That might have been to do with the fact that I didn't realise I had to revise, rather than the fact it was January exams. I suppose the decider will be how my results are this time.
