A hotly-anticipated smartwatch, which was created thanks to $15m (£10m) in crowdsourced funding, is to be made available this month.

The Pebble has an e-ink display similar to those found on e-readers, and last seven days on one battery charge.

The 1.26in (3,2cm) screen is able to display a multitude of apps as well as tell the time.

Pebble is to date the most successful Kickstarter project, but had been hit by development delays.

Awesome. Could be just in time for my birthday :-D

Nice spot Karl. I've been signed up on their mailing list since they started on Kickstarter and the first news I get about the release date is from VT haha.

Ooh, nice. Very clever how it connects to the phone, but too bad the battery is limited compared to a normal watch. A watch is not something I would regularly connect to a PC.

REAL hipsters carry pocket watches. Just saying :P

To be fair, people spend way more money on watches just as jewellery.

As far as battery life comments, I tend to charge my current "watch" (i.e. my phone) every night, so with a battery life of over 7 days, with all that functionality on top of a watch doesn't seem like a big deal to me. If it was a day or less, it would be pointless.
