It's 150 years today since the oldest sections of the tube were opened, I just wanted to share this, if you haven't seen it Google (google.com) has a wonderful doodle of the tube map.
I haven't had the chance to ride on "The tube" but my cousin is obsessed so we sit chatting about it. (oh he doesn't even live in London)
Anybody here have an interest in the tube or used it?
Obviously if you're from London. Funny stories would be interesting to hear :)

Going on the tube is one of my favourite parts of going to London, I've been many times now but that never gets old for me i'm such a tourist :P
I've been several times for the league cup matches and you get on the line to Wembley and everyone is just crammed together in the team colours (in our case claret and blue) and its such a good atmosphere.

The last time I went on the tube was in December.
When I was 11 I got lost on the tube by myself. The doors close automatically when the train is about to leave the station. I ran ahead of my family and the doors closed before they got on. It was terrifying at the time :p
Other than that the tube tends to make me nervous after the 7/7 bombings, or at least it used too. It hasn't the last few times i've been on it. At the moment i'm using it ever few weeks because i've been to London a lot in the last year and I should, if I get the grades for uni, be moving there next year, so i'll be using it alot more again. It's not as exciting as you make out :p

Sorry to hear you got stuck, I realise the doors close automatically because I'm a nerd (Planes trains and automobiles this excites me) aha, although slightly more soberingly with regard to 7/7 engineering in new stations is making the system gradually more fire proof as well as actual safety features in trains themselves and better vigilance by the general public. -Lets hope the lessons were learnt
Thanks so far ladies :P

Mmm dat history.
I like how it's called the London Underground, yet a lot of it is overground :P
I heard that without actual shelters, people used to use the tunnels as bunkers themselves, despite warnings against that. A long time ago, lol.

The tube is one of the parts of London which frustrates me the most. Too many people crammed in to one spot. I only ever change trains there really though, so it's just a straight hop from Kings Cross to Victoria.
Amazing to hear about their birthday though! Really quite amazing if you think about it!
