I used Windows 8 for about a month and I really liked it, but due to certain Anti cheats not working in it I was forced to downgrade to Windows 7.
It takes a while to get used to it on a laptop/PC but once you do, you will love it.

I've spent a couple of hours using it on other people's computers. Its great on touchscreens (I've used it on a surface, which I really liked) but the new UI doesn't feel so great to use just with the mouse in some ways (but I'd need to spend more time with it I expect).
There's a lot of stuff in different places so there's a bit of a learning curve over previous windows versions.
Generally I like the UI. I don't feel like I want to rush and upgrade to it, but I do really want a Surface or something similar now :P

I tried it at the laptop demo area at my Wal-Mart, I like windows 8. Unfortunately we can't seem to find a place to buy new RAM for my laptop. (It's original DDR so it's rather hard to find these days.

As long as I have netbook with preinstalled Win7, it didn't work properly for me, after upgrade all hotkeys don't work, except wifi and brightness, and now I often get lower perfomance in games (maybe because built in perfomance booster set up to energy saving by default and it doesn't work in Win8). Yes, it boots faster, works slightly faster, has marvelous task manager, but I'm thinking of downgrading anyway. I'll better install it on my home PC when I get to it.

I've used it on a tablet, and I quite like it. The tile layout is really cool, in my opinion.

I got it with my new laptop, I think it's pretty cool and it's not that complicated as it looks you just gotta play with buttons. For starters the Start menu was the biggest problem people couldn't get use to since it was designed for tablets and not PC devices. Example the 'Shut down' option is under settings and if you want to log out its actually under your profile pic or whatever its called. So many years people were use to the little fun Start button ball which was completely removed which IMO was a silly move I actually liked the start button. But other than that once you get a hang of it and are patient with the new layout you'll have nothing to worry about. You don't have to upgrade if you don't want to this is just my opinion on it.

I can't see you enjoying Windows 8 on a non-touch device. I have used Windows 8, and Windows RT (Windows 8 for Touch Tablets), and can say that I'd never use Windows 8 on my laptop, on a tablet? Eh... maybe, but for day to day work, I'll be sticking with Windows 7, and likely switching to a Mac later this year. Microsoft are pushing people to the new Modern UI, previously known as the 'Metro' interface. For non technical general PC users, that's fine, its eye candy, it looks great. For IT Professionals, Businesses, and Large Corporate Enterprises, Windows 8 is useless, and in my opinion, Microsoft's suicide note. Windows 8 is the first step to the future of Operating Systems.
Dumbed Down.
Big Brother Privacy.
Frustrating.
My opinion comes from the fact that I'm an IT Professional, and consult with Businesses and Individuals on a day to day basis about their needs and the needs of their companies IT Infrastructures, so my opinion is more Capital, than Consumer. But I hope it offers some insight. =]

Windows 8, in my opinion , is SHIT.
Windows 7 is better in all aspects , Win8 probably its made for Tablets and Touchscreen, otherwise for a PC it is a piece of crap

I don't think the way they straight up released Windows 8 was good either, you go from Windows 7 with the traditional desktop and straight away you shock people by introducing a load of touch screen blocks.

I have a computer that is about 2 years old, and it was great when I got it. I upgraded to Windows 8 the morning it came out and found it to cause me more trouble. Depending on how you buy it, it does not include Windows Media Player so you'll need some other player to watch DVDs.
I have been waiting for driver updates, and let me tell you, they are coming, but ever so slowly. I choose a Dell Latitude because I thought it looked better than Dell's home versions, and for the options. The good looking home laptops didn't have DVD drives. My DVD drive is not recognized in Windows 8. At all. Even in Device Manager. The tray opens, I hear it spin, but nothing ever happens. I hardly ever use CDs, but when I want to, I want to be able to. I also had to reinstall my Dell laser printer, and the more updated version was on the CD that was sent with it, not online. (Shame on you, Dell.)
If you're happy with your computer the way that it is, and it works, leave it be. I feel like Windows 8 is similar to Vista. I've never gotten a chance to play around with it on a tablet, I think it would be useful, but it's difficult to navigate with a mouse, even with gestures. Windows 8 should not have been released to the PC market, but rather as a separate OS for a tablet.

I've had it since July as I tested out the betas ect- And as much as I tried to like it I have always hated it so much. It just makes everything harder and it is a touchscreen thing- I firmly believe that touch screens belong on tablets and not computers, purely for the ergonomics. On the tablet Windows 8 is a nice and fresh look- But I still prefer my iPad but it is a worthwhile competitor :)

I had tried to use Windows 8 on a friend's computer just the other day and I found it to be very complicated to use. I know its always a good idea to crack open the manual every once in awhile, but I have to ask myself if I really want to learn how to use an OS like Windows 8 when I can just stick to Windows 7 which is still a pretty good OS. In my opinion, the best OS. So yeah, it might be awhile before I go after Windows 8, for sure. I'll probably be like those 30-something guys who still keep Windows XP for the exact same reasons I'm stating now.
