If I was wondering why a particular person was banned would such information be disclosed?

Nope, that information is confidential, between that particular member, and the VT staff.

i'm not really sure about this, to be honest. i know that the moderators have not said much about a certain friend of mine's banning, which is understanding because that's just how it is. i think if it was a really bad offense (ie. they may not be who they claim to be, very shady, pedophile, etc) they might let you know that you should not talk to them and you may want to stop having contact with them.
Wonder.

They don't say why people are banned to avoid drama and it's honestly none of your business. If they told anyone, that person could make a big deal saying that they shouldn't have been banned and nothing useful would come out of it.

you could probably PM an admin and ask.

They will only inform you about a members banning if it has to do with your safety. One example being to stop talking to them on skype. But they normally keep it private.

All bans are kept confidential. Under specific circumstances sometimes some information is shared. However that is generally only when there is a risk to Virtual Teen members and the senior staff agree that something should be said. However 99% of the time bans generally are not shared with the general population.

Basically this.
There have been a SELECT FEW cases where ban information has been well known.
I..am not going to say because honestly I know quite a few and I can't remember which ones were let to users know :whoops:
However the vast majority of bans are either (A) bots or (B) blatant rule breaking.
If they have no posts and a ban, there's a really good chance you've found a bot account.

i don't understand people with smiley face icons that say "banned" but they are still posting. were they unbanned but they still have the banned badge to show they are on probation?

If they're not bot posts banned members still retain their posts. they just can't post any NEW material.
No one keeps the "banned" face on 'probation'.
You don't see which members are on post moderation, only the mods and the person under moderation knows.
Temporary bans exist, but more often freezes are used, usually due to infraction point accumulation (do bad things, get infractions, points vary on severity of case)

The staff does not disclose ban information. If you must find out, see if you can contact the banned member, and it's up to them if they want to tell you.

Can a ban be lifted? From what I've gathered, the frozen members only have a temporary ban, but what about actual banned members? Can it still be lifted?

*Waves* Actually, everyone can tell who is under post moderation. We don't have a post face whatsoever. It's a pretty dead give away.

Yes it can, the banned member has the chance to appeal and staff decide whether or not they should be a member again. I expect that in those circumstances they are on moderation for a period of time afterwards though.

They've already made a thread or two on it back when Adam and I posted more often. The lack of a post face just kinda throws people for a loop. :P

It's just when people who have been on the forums for a long period of time and I've had contact with them and thought they were pretty cool and then they get banned for a reason unknown to me. Makes me wonder. Guess I shall stop wondering then.

I think you, or anyone wondering this should go read this (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1962149&postcount=16) post. It is excellent at explaining and summing up the reasons why we ban people here, and what you should do if someone is banned.
We recommend that you don’t remain in active contact with a member who’s been banned from this site, but we can’t be the internet police either. The staff does everything we can do ensure safety here - and you can ask anyone that. If someone is banned, it is likely in your best interest not to keep in active contact with them.

Yes, bans can be lifted. One of the recently retired admins served a period under a ban.

The staff does not discuss ban reasons or information with the general public. If a member was banned they have the opportunity to file a 'Ban Appeal' and an administrator will decide if they stay banned or are unbanned.

No I'm pretty sure that's a glitch, since it also happens when someone gets demodded once in awhile... It could have changed.

It's specific to a few members for an undisclosed reason.
Not everyone on post moderation has no post count face.

Didn't know it was only to a specific few of us. o_O
I thought it was a glitch as well at first, but glitches don't last for a year. :P

Being put into the "restricted user" user group is a tad different from having your account restricted due to an accumulation of infraction points. When you accumulate enough points to be on restriction your posts may need to be approved and you lose a few features -- when your user group is changed to the "restricted user" user group your PM box can only hold 50 PMs, you do not have a user rank face (post count face), your posts must be moderated, along with more. The reason why you don't see many people without the user rank is because not many people are put into that user group.
