hey. i looked in the FAQ but couldn't find the answers to these 2 questions. I saw some threads that were locked and I don't understand the reasons that were given. I want to make sure I don't do the same thing so I don't get locked or blocked or whatever. I see something about "bumping posts". idk what that means. I know that if i bump a post it will lock the thread but idk what bumping a post is.

also, i saw that replying to a post that is 2 months old will make it get locked. I noticed that lots of the same questions and surveys get asked over and over and i didn't know why people didn't just read the original ones and answer there but i guess that is why. but i only joined last month so i was going back and reading old questions and answers and idk if i answered one that was too old or not. what is the limit for how old a post can be that you are still allowed to reply to? and just for curiosity how come you can't answer one that is more than 2 months old?

thanks

Bumping a post is posting so that it's "bumped" to the newest posts, so more people see it. Since bumping an old post is against the rules, posting in a thread that's had no activity for a certain amount of time will get it locked, I assume so that outdated threads aren't still circulating and receiving responses. Then again, I'm not a moderator, so I'm not entirely sure on the reasoning.

You answered your own question. "Bumping" a thread is posting in a thread which hasn't been active or posted in in the last two months (or 3 months in the Puberty for Both section). To avoid doing this, just make sure you check post dates before sending your message, and stay to active threads.

Because the thread was bumped, as explained above.

I noticed that lots of the same questions and surveys get asked over and over and i didn't know why people didn't just read the original ones and answer there but i guess that is why.

That's not why. People can still read the old threads and get their answers regardless if they were locked. They'll make new threads because they want their own information, or want to ask a specific question they didn't see elsewhere.

I answered the first part of this above, but I'll answer the second one now. You can't post in those threads because we like to keep the forums active by having new threads, and likely, the OP has their answer already. Once there are a good amount of replies to a thread, the OP (Original Poster) won't need to hear the same thing over and over, so it gets repetitive.

Any other questions you may have can be directed to me, or any staff member. :)

If you do bump a thread by mistake or something like this then the best thing you can do is report it using this http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/images/bgold/buttons/report.gif buttnon. That way we can get to it faster.

Like Steven said, the bump rule for the entire forums is 2 months with exception of Questions for Both Boy and Girls which is in the puberty section. The only place that doesn't have a bump limit would be the members forums/diaries. Usually they state a bump rule if one is to be applied but most don't state any bump rule.

Again like Steven said the reason why people post the same surveys and questions is because they want there own answers. While I agree that sometimes it is a bit much from time to time survey wise as a lot of them are created, people have the right to do so.
