Just curious, what do people make of politics? Should a country be run by:
1.Democracy - where people vote for an overall leader (e.g. President, Chancellor, Prime Minister) who is aided by other politicians in running a country
2. A dictator in a totalitarian state - where one person controls everything
3. A monarchy - the country's Royal family runs the country
Which way do you guys think is the best way and why?
Just curious, thanks :D

In my opinion, a democracy. It just seems best for the people of a country to have a say-so in who has control over their country, and democracy allows them to do that.

Yes, i agree. It makes things fairer for everyone, and can decrease the chance of people being unhappy if they have some say in what happens.

I think that the different forms have benefits and drawbacks, but that democracy is the best overall.
Monarchy is just a specific form of dictatorship, so I'll treat then as one form of government. Dictatorship is incredibly efficient. Things get done quickly, and a central vision can be achieved easily. There isn't any worry about the leader loosing their job, so they are more ambitions. However, the major downside of dictatorship is that that amount of power can make someone act irrationally. There are few, if any, sane dictators. As a result, dictatorship doesn't work, and the countries run by it stagnate or crumble.
Democracy ensures that the people have power and rights, and that their will is enforced. It is the fairest system, and prevents the government getting out of control. Unfortunately, it is often slow and inefficient. The people can sometimes make bad decisions and, as a result, the country suffers. However, despite its shortfalls, democracy is a good system. There's a reason that many of the world's most developed countries are democracies.

Does everyone here realize that America is actually a Federal Republic and not technically a Democracy?
They are commonly misunderstood!

While this is very much true, I didn't say anyone say anything in this thread about America being a Democracy. But what I can say is that our Nation was built on the idea of a Democracy, but it never became that, or if it did, it has evolved into a Federal Republic.
We are also a Constitutional Republic, because we seek to ensure the rights of individuals in the Republic.
Back to the topic of the page, I feel the Democracy is perhaps the best form of government listed. Sure, most Democracy is slow and inefficient. But with the power separated as it is, it leaves almost no room for one person, or group of people, to get too much power over the others.

Monarchies worked in the past simply because the leaders had more integrity. Now I wouldn't trust any politician I didn't know personally to hold $10 for me...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nero
In 64, most of Rome was destroyed in the Great Fire of Rome, which many Romans believed Nero himself had started in order to clear land for his planned palatial complex, the Domus Aurea. In 68, the rebellion of Vindex in Gaul and later the acclamation of Galba in Hispania drove Nero from the throne. Facing assassination, he committed suicide on 9 June 68 (the first Roman emperor to do so).[4] His death ended the Julio-Claudian Dynasty, sparking a brief period of civil wars known as the Year of the Four Emperors. Nero's rule is often associated with tyranny and extravagance.[5] He is known for many executions, including those of his mother[6] and the probable murder by poison of his stepbrother, Britannicus.

I believe that a county should be run as federal republic. I think a republic is the most logical system for governance; although, the most effective is a total monarch and or a dictatorship. Because them you don't need to waste time with an upper and lower house, people will just do what you say, but then you'll have to face Princess Leia and the rebels.

What matters most is not the system of government but the person who runs it.

Democracy, for sure. It shouldn't be run any other way, in my opinion. The population should have say in who runs the country.

Democracy 'tis the only way to go. Communism for economics in the U.S. honestly I mean what I'm saying. Face it, my dad is really poor right now, but what the hell is with the people earning more than what my dad has in a single day. Yes, I'm talking about my father.

All of them have their own list of pros and cons but overall a democracy is my choice. I mean lets face it, I'd rather have a chance to vote for a guy I want into power rather than some guy I might strongly dislike making choices for its country. If I can atleast vote, it shows my views.
I really don't like the royal family in the UK, so that can be thrown out the window lol. Again these are my views.

That is a very loose linkage towards that. It's more socialist than anything.
Why is Obama jealous? He has money, but he wants to share the wealth. I'm not disagreeing with ya, this is just not a very good interpretation of this.

Whatever you heard makes absolutely no sense. He can't be communist be cause if he was, the economy might actually be fixed. We're still in debt. What does that tell you? Apparently nothing at all in such a feeble mind as yours.
