There seems to be a mini rivalry, the people who hate apple are lovers of android , or the people who love android hate apple
I have an iPhone and most my family have Android
At first i used to say I hate android but it isnt too bad tbh , i feel a tad conned out of money buying an iphone .....

I prefer Android, but I don't hate Apple. It's just when you buy Apple, it seems so complicated. I had a little iPod and it was hell to figure out and have up and went back to using my phone at the time. When you have one Apple thing, you have to have another, even if it's just iTunes. Android doesn't need that, it's easy and is compatible with, like, everything.

mini rivalry is an understatement.
Personally I prefer Android. They seem to have come up with more innovative ideas. Apple was like this but when Steve Jobs died it seemed that Apple were too scared to come up with something original so they just improved what they had before. I mean, Face Unlock and Android Beam are two of my favourite features. Android feels more customizable and I'm not locked into using JUST iTunes and the App store.

I have an Android but I don't know.. I can't really fight for either side since I never owned an Apple Product. But I can really distinguish the differences between the two. They both seem great.

I have an android, I much prefer it to Apple. The only Apple product I have is an iPod, I wouldn't get the phone, it's not because I don't like, it's that there's so much more you can do with an android.

I have the gs3. I live the screen size and features. Before I got this I was thinking about going apple. They do feel and look nice, but your so limited with them. And now that I have the gs3, the iphone seems ridiculously small! Advice if your getting the gs3. If your not a careful person, or even if you are as accidents happen, get a good case. I dropped my phone for the FIRST time with a cheap case on, and it cracked! Its extremely small and unseen with my otterbox on. But non the less devastating. If your clumsy, maybe not the phone for you, but id still go android!

I Prefer Apple. I had a first gen ipad, and loved it. I sold it last year, and now I have a Kindle which is Android I think, I also have another Android tablet. They are great, but the app store sucks (its Amazon apps for both), which that is why I prefer Apple for their app store, but Apple is so expensive.

I have used both personally for a couple years, and in doing so, I have found that android is the winner here BY FAR. I find most of the people who "prefer" ios and iPhones, haven't even used any Android device for comparison!
IPhones used to be the only good smartphones, but now, we have companies like Samsung, Motorola, HTC, and Google's Nexus that have phones and tablets that are just as good as or better than what apple has. If people would realize this, then the world can evolve from the simple iPhones and we'd all become a more advanced society.

Android. I've had two HTC phones (on a Desire 2 currently) and I love them. I've done the usual rivalry thing with my best friend when he had an iPhone (which got nicked), and as of Christmas he's now got an HTC running Android :P

Even though I spend a lot of time on my Ipod Touch and my MacBook... I'm gonna side with android. They make a wide variety of phones with really cool features that the Iphone doesn't. They also have a nicer and bigger screen. They also have more carriers. Iphone only has ATNT, Verizon, sprint, and one more that I can't think of at the moment. Android has EVERY carrier there is. Oh and their internet is way faster as well.

I disagree STRONGLY.
Like... a lot!
They USED TO be the best.
They've fallen behind. And they're stuck in a pit, resorting to stealing ideas and following other trends that are becoming popular such as 7in tablets, larger phone screens (even though the ip5 is still a tiny annoying screen), in ear earbuds, map interfaces, etc.

First of all, I wasn't just talking about Samsung... android is huge compared to ios in terms of companies, phones, other devices, and international users.
1. Samsung nor apple were the first to use voice assistants.
2. "Better" is an opinion. No facts = invalid statement
3. "Most people" contained no statistics. And it is actually false in the sense that there are in fact more purchased android running phones worldwide than there are ios phones.

Apple (iOS) would still be the consistently better option versus the crappy Android.
Why? Simple: Unified platform. Every single App in the store is guaranteed to work, out of the box, on your device. On android, you not only might not have access to the whole store selection, theres still a pretty high chance that the stuff there won't properly work on your device for reasons unknown to most users.
But regardless, they are both little more than toys. Android is just a piece of crap that can be used as a toy sometimes, while iOS is a toy that can be used for some serious work from time to time.

You sound like a common apple person, who has never really tried an android phone practically, like a galaxy s3, or a nexus 4.
I'd write a colossal essay as to say why android is better, but I'm just getting tired of it. I'd have you know that I used ios for years until I switched to android last year. I have never made a smarter choice before in my life. Android, and it's extremely flexible, non-proprietary interface is SO USEFUL when it comes to collaboration with multiple users for business, school, or even just daily communication.
The phones themselves? Massive powerful processors, large BEAUTIFUL led screens, perfect function of hardware, (I could go on forever).
There's just SO much that iPhones lack that is sad. They're not the "newest" best technology that apple says they are.
I like android. I LOVE my galaxy s3. My friends with iPhones are jealous, and it's funny :p.

Massive powerful processors: Yes, because android needs all that processing power to run its bloat. Have you noticed how Windows Phone and even iOS runs much smoother with a lot less processing power?
And you are basing your opinion of android entirely on your personal experience with the S3, which btw is not even completely vanilla android and is actually tweaked by Samsung, along with being the most powerful android phone. Please don't tell me you also have it rooted because then your point is completely void: you are agreeing to android being crap by needing third party, low-level fiddling for it to work properly.
Oh, did I mention the markup on that phone is also higher than the iPhone 5? Meaning you paid a lot more than what the phone costs to manufacture, a lot more even by Apple standards.
And the biggest downside of the android crap is simply the fact that google is behind it and unless you are a blind fanboy, or have been living under a rock for the last couple years, google should be the last company you should trust any personal information to. Have you seen the countless anti-trust, security, user privacy, etc. investigations and fines that google has been going through? And lets not forget their anti-competitive practices of the last couple weeks too...

1: Android phones have the ability to do a lot more, and so you use it more. For example. I have the ability to keep a good full gigabyte of stuff running in the foreground, such as a game, about a hundred Widgets on desktop, updating news, etc.
It allows me to multitask much more efficiently without the system slowing down. Apple's processors can't handle what I do with a phone. Which is why .I switched, and why I haven't gone back.
Also, I like snappy response, so I like having the simple ability to scale animation durations. I agree ios feels smooth, but it also feels slow due to draggy animations. :p
2: I have 3 android devices. Gs3, nexus 7, and galaxy nexus. I have used about 30 other different devices as well.
I have used vanilla android 4.1-4.2 more than anything else. And I am VERY aware of what Samsung has done with their modified interfaces.
3: Contracts bro. Same deal either way.
Plus mines cheaper to replace if It breaks. Don't go off and argue about how one is stronger than the other. They're about the same.
Plus, Google (googol) is a big number
Androids are robots and they're smart.and robotic
Apples taste like shit IMO.
And ios is a complexicated acronym.
It's obvious
Android is better.
But then again, apple pie isn't that bad...
Lighten up dude :D

Please don't insult me. I'm actually pretty knowledgeable on the subject of how computers work... I'm just tired, and I don't want to argue anymore. I honestly don't really care which one is better. All i really care about is that my phone is big, and it has a big screen, because I have big hands. It works fine for me.

I do use Android (a heavily modified version on my Kindle Fire) and even then its just awful. But even though I don't own any iOS products, I do have first hand (dev) experience on them as well as insight into their OS and know how much better the ecosystem is from the Android ecosystem.

Apple all the way, for a couple of reasons. The user interface is great and really efficient, it's simplistic so that you don't get cluttered with too many options like androids can. I've recently had to switch over to an android because my iphone broke. Now i'm stuck with a galaxy s2 and i hate it. It's really customizable sure, but the app market is horrible, i use way more data because of all the background tasks, and the battery life sucks.

I really can only say Apple because I only own an iPod Touch, but I wouldn't be complaining if I had to use Android.
I'm only really saying Apple because I'm just so much more used to it.
now THIS is a great answer! :D

I'm an android user. I used to be an ios user, but then after trying a Nexus 7 tablet, i fell in love with it, and i'm now a happy Samsung Galaxy S3 owner! :D

Ever since Steve Jobs died apple has been declining, so I have to side with Android for it has freedom when it comes to modding and it has emulators of many old consoles.

I actually like a lot of the things that Apple does with their products, but it's a hard sell when Android phones can do pretty much the exact same things at a price point that is $50 lower, or more

I prefer apple because I have a few of their products and they work well together, however i'm getting bored of my iphone and would probably go with a samsung android phone on my upgrade unless I get bullied into the new iphone because of iCloud.

Apple. I'm not a programmer and I'm not too concerned with being able to completely customize my phone or tablet. The simplicity of the iProducts makes me prefer them over Android. Also, as someone noted, they work well together.

Bit of a tough choice. I like all of the customizing options you have with an Android without modifying the software and I love the range of phones that you can choose from. The iPhone is fairly nice too, but it'd be a lot nicer if I didn't have to worry about the new screen size that would be coming out in five months.

I personally have an apple device because of the large amount of apps that are useful to me, I have jail-broken it to give me more freedom and a few more nice apps that you couldn't normally get on an iPhone (Command Lines etc). Whilst Android devices are very good, I would prefer an iPhone, but when it comes to desktops, PC's all the way!

I prefer Android. Everything is so easy to work with. The OS is also very nice. I just love everything about it.
Apple products are over priced. You can get a phone that can do just as much for almost half the price. (Samsung Galaxy S4)

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 which is running the newest Android version. I prefer Android. I have only used an iPhone for 15 minutes, and I have an iPod, which is nothing compared to an Android system. Honestly, in my opinion, I think Apple is overrated and the only people that buy them have money.

I've been using iOS since 2007, and I'm used to it. I don't mind Android (I have an Android phone and I can see why it's popular), but I am just used to the layout of iOS and it does what I need. For me, I don't need a shit tonne of customization as long as I can use my apps with no problem.
It's a bit like cars for me. Sure I can appreciate heavily modified trucks, but I don't appreciate the assholes that act like "if you're not driving this bitch you're a pussy."
The same applies for Apple/Android users.

For a few years I've had an iPod touch and recently an ipad but still an old android phone. It was slow, looked ridiculous (so thick), and was covered in scratches (obviously my own fault there!); I was definitely an apple fan because my old htc really made my apple stuff shine.
However recently I bought a samsung gs4 and it's fantastic! It can do everything the iPhone can't and more. I've never realised how restrictive apple are on their products. I'd say a decent android phone is really worth it but just don't judge android on the cheap ones as they don't give a real view on what android is all about.

Apple. I've never gotten a virus or had any issue with my OS since I got my phone (June 2012). Some of my friends have had to buy new phones because they got a virus somehow. Plus, my phone fits in my pocket, and I don't need to stand 5 feet away just to use my phone. Also, when my school does random searches, my phone is a lot less noticeable (even though I have a lime green rubber case) than these phones with a 5" display. I feel that when Apple (even though they do borrow ideas) rolls out their major iOS upgrade, it's usually done a lot better than in Android (with the exception of Apple Maps, that was just horrible), where you get like 5 a year in Android it seems. Plus, iOS isn't tweaked by any specific manufacturer to get it the way they want it. Unless you've jailbroken your device, you get the full iOS experience as the Dev team meant for you to get it.

i also have a htc chacha and an iphone 4S
on the tablet side android is better becaus you can hack it more easy and do more with it. Android is made to be hacked!
for phones is an iphone the best choice because it is stable and does better on power consumption

I love both, I just switched to android (Galaxy s4) a couple weeks ago and I like it. My only problem is the keyboard but I sure I'll get used to it.
My view/way of choosing
Android
-WAY more customizable/ Personalization
-More complex
-Better for tech savvy people
-Viruses
Ios
-simple
-easy to learn
-less viruses
-better apps
-less customizable

I've been on android for a while. I've never had a virus because I have an app called Lookout that scans everything I download in the background. It works flawlessly.

I, personally, have an Android but I know people who have iPhones. Looking back at the history of the two I think Apple definitely had a lead at the start but then they sat on their Laurels.
Apple also have a view that its their job to make the choices and the customer's job to part with their money. Many of the choices Apple make are good ones but I think they lost ground for a while when the open marketplace in Android enabled different manufacturers to produce phones of different shapes and sizes and from cheap and cheerful to premium. Apple did eventually relent and offer a choice of sizes.
So, now I think it's swings and roundabouts. Apple seem to be better at protecting your privacy. For a start they are not a company that makes their money from harvesting your data but then they are also better at security updates etc. On the other hand you pay for that because their products are expensive and they are designed so you then buy other Apple products to go with them, i.e. they lock you in. It's hard to use an Android phone effectively without Google getting to know an awful lot about you but then you have a choice from cheap to expensive and they tend to work well with other things.

iPhone for me, but mostly for the following 4 reasons:
1. Apple’s policy of privacy of your data and privacy and security
2. Apple’s app ecosystem being very app rich for various things.
3. Independent news reports that some android vendors say they are up to date on “update security patches” for the lastest threats, but when analysts looked it was a lie and customers had a false sense of security allegedly.
4. Most of my family has iPhone.
5. iMessage is convenient and works in low cellular strength areas, especially for emergency communication.
