I've been doing it again a lot lately. I'm not sure why I started up again but now I feel like I can't stop. I've been mainly focusing on one area. Each time it starts to heal, I cut deeper. Afterwards, I spray hairspray on it so it burns longer. I'm not sure if I want to stop but I know I need to. Any advice?

you need to think of better coping methods
for instance draw with red marker on the areas that you want to cut
try wearing a band on your wrist and flicking it whenever you feel tempted
write down all your inner feelings and tear them up
try and talk to someone you trust.. anything is better than cutting yourself :(
please stop hurting youself.... its not healthy.....

Yes, you do need to stop, but you have to be committed to stopping as well. If you are, then start by distracting your mind in any way you can. Listen to music, watch tv or a movie, read a book, etc. Try and get your feelings out in a healthy manner, by writing or drawing/doing other art forms, or talking to a trusted friend. Get someone to hold you accountable in your effort to stop, and surround yourself with people who will love and support you in your efforts. Keep your mind off of the urges however you can. I wish you the best of luck hun, and we're all here to help and support you if you need us! :hug3:

It sounds like you cut to feel and while I know self harm is a big way to go about that it's not safe. You're more at risk of getting an infection if you're spraying hairspray in the wounds. There are some other release methods above but maybe eating chilli, something sour or taking a cold shower might work for you? Even the standard snapping a rubber band might work, they're all methods that allow you to feel. Clint also brought up a good point, you should tell someone if you cab, talk to people you trust about how you're feeling. Having people you can rely on to be there can be a weight off your shoulders.
