The World Car of the Year (WCOTY) is an automobile award selected by a jury of 48 international automotive journalists from 22 countries. Cars considered must be sold in at least five countries on at least two continents prior to 1 January of the year of the award. The contest is a relatively new one, inaugurated in 2005 as a unified award similar to many of the continent- and nation-specific Car of the Year awards already given. Since 2006, awards for performance, green cars, and car design also given.
Car fans, nuts and enthusiasts, take your pick!
In Europe, current candidates include the Ford B-Max, Hyundai i30, Mercedes A Class, Peugeot 208, Renault Clio, Subaru BRZ, VW Golf and Volvo V40.
In the States, 2012 has seen a rejuvenated range of Chrysler 300, all-new Ford Fusion, Dodge Dart among others.
What's your favorite of the year and why? :yeah:

Toyota GT86/Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S for sure. Brought back the idea of an affordable car that can give you the same joy a supercar can while still being versatile and cheap to own. I think its a fantastic idea and was well executed. I plan on buying one as my first car.

Damn, rich boy! :P
I haven't had a chance to see it up close or drive any of them yet. Some say it's amazing, but there's a good lack of torque and "oomph" that perhaps an STI overhaul could fix :)
I'm quite liking the Fusion, though Ford could have done with a better-specified, perhaps limited edition model to sweeten the deal for those wanting something more along the lines of a scaled-down Rapide :P

Don't get me wrong. I'm not sure about the current-gen Focus, but I've driven the previous generation European model Focus and it was worlds apart from the American one I drove

For starters, they come much better equipped. Base model Focus you see on the road looks horrible with hub caps and crap!
The steering is much more sensitive, more hydraulic than electrically assisted. It's a lot harder to turn, but you do have a much better feeling of the road. Not sure how much sense this makes but you have to drive it to understand!
I can't get over how disastrous they styled the US Market Fiesta, four-spoke wheels. Eww!

Well I think all the US Focus sedans are too plain. They just don't have any flair...
