I was having a discussion with my drama teacher (long story) and she asked this because of my well-known knack for answering (and asking) random questions. Anyway: If you eat a placenta (after it is surgically removed), does it still countas cannibalism? Answer seriously, and think about it before answering.

I would say yes, because it is still part of a human, isn't it?

That comes down to definition of abortion.
In my beliefs once it is out of the vagina, it's a person, so yes :P
But eating it inside is fine.

Well nobody is going to eat placenta unless they are testing some new method of cell manipulation. Id say it isn't cannibalism, its just gross

Okay seriously, your obsession with Hannibal Lector is going a bit far ... it's really creepy.

I mean, once the baby is born, the placenta is nothing but a benign tumor, so it comes down to that.

The definition of cannibalism is consuming anything that was/is human flesh or part of a human, so yes, I would consider eating the placenta to be cannibalism, though I fail to understand as to why anyone would want to eat it. >.<

It all comes down to terminology and definition. I guess since it was part of the human, it is cannibalsim.
