It's quite a bit to learn. I haven't used CS3 since quite a while ago. The potential Photoshop has is far beyond most of us, it's important to narrow it down to what you want to use it for. Kind of hard to attach step by step pictures, but generally you'd want to start with basic adjustments like Levels, Brightness & Contrast, Curves, Color Balance, Hue & Saturation and Exposure. It's probably best to read up on basic photograph post-processing techniques and slowly learn to apply and play around with the program. There are many ways to achieve a desired look, in the end it's all up to preference and what you like best.
I'm not 110% with Photoshop, but I'm quite a longtimer and can answer any questions you may have :)
Good luck!

Photoshop is a vast and confusing program and difficult to get up to speed with. Really your best bet is to get a "teach yourself photoshop" book. The problem is that CS3 is a very old release now (I'm running CS6) so there won't be any CS3 books in the shops. Your best bet may be ebay.

There are so many different ways to approach doing something in Photoshop. There is no right or wrong way because you are editing your image how YOU want it to look. Plus, we don't know what the photo looks like that you want to edit and what you have in mind doing to it.
Easiest way to learn Photoshop imo is have someone sit down with you that knows how to use it and show you some of the basics- once you get those down, you will understand the program a bit better and have an idea where and how to start with your editing. If that isn't an option, try tutorial videos on youtube. Start with some on CS6 basics. Learning Photoshop isn't something you can rush; you have to have the basics down before you learn doing more advanced/cool effects.
Good luck.

Lol, the reason I recommended CS3 was because it was cheaper and still did a lot of the functions in CS6. But since you're pirating them you might as well get the latest release.
When you want to make something from scratch, try the pen and brushing tools. Also use text warping after you've made some text.
And remember that once you rasterize something, it cannot be edited. For example, when you rasterize text, it becomes a picture.

Hmm, are you after photo editing or manipulation?
Both are two entirely different things. You're too vague to ask for help with anything specifically..

If you're into animation then get these free programs:
Alice (http://www.alice.org/)
Blender (http://www.blender.org/)
If you have money, get Adobe Flash CS3/4/5.
But you really ought to be paying for these products. Pirating them is helping no one.

No, it didn't "save you over $1000", it COST the companies collectively $1000. If you were a programmer writing these programs, you wouldn't do it for free unless it was open source. You're not paying the developers what they deserve, and you're stealing it. You sir, are a thief.
