VIDEO: Cameras capture the chaotic scene as a shark tank EXPLODES in a Shanghai mall, injuring 15

Some suffered lacerations from the flying glass at the Shanghai Oriental Shopping Center on Dec. 18. At least one person broke an ankle. The accident also left three lemon sharks and dozens of smaller fish and turtles dead.

At least four people were in front of the shark tank at the Shanghai Oriental Shopping Center at the time it cracked open.

Security video inside a Shanghai shopping mall captured the terrifying moment an aquarium with live sharks burst open, injuring at least 15 people and leading to the death of dozens of animals.
The chaotic scene on Dec. 18 inside the Shanghai Oriental Shopping Center left many of the victims with cuts from the broken glass, while one of them suffered a broken ankle, according to the China Daily. Many of those hurt were mall employees.

In addition, three lemon sharks and dozens of smaller fish and turtles were killed when the 33-ton tank exploded, sending water and glass cascading through part of the shopping center, the BBC reported. At least four people were standing right in front of the display at the time.

Many of the victims suffered cuts from the broken glass. "It was horrible, like a bomb explosion," one mall vendor said.

“It was horrible, like a bomb explosion,” one mall vendor told the China Daily. “Some pedestrians were pushed (6-1/2 feet) away by the force of the water.”
Officials were investigating whether low temperatures in Shanghai combined with shoddy building materials made the shark tank — built just two years ago — suddenly rupture.
This isn't the first time the display has been damaged: A broken water pipe in June led to the death of three sharks, according to reports.

Investigators are looking into whether low temperatures and shoddy building materials caused the tank to rupture.

Mall officials have apparently had enough and told local media they don't plan to rebuild.

oh my wow
that's crazy. The poor animals! First they're kept in captivity and then they die because of humans' negligence! I mean, the injuries sustained by people are sad too but cuts from broken glass pale in comparison to several innocent lives being wasted.

I feel bad for the sharks, even though I cuss at them when I'm at the beach.
What really pisses me off is that if a person tripped or fell into a fountain while texting, then people would come rushing to help. But some asswholes actually stopped to take pictures of the flopping, dying, desperate fish !!

Stupid Chinese. And these are the same people who make almost every product we use and put lead in children's toys!

yeah... yeah, i feel bad for the animals.... too bad we didn't try harder to keep those animals safe.

but i also feel bad for the humans. no offense, but as much as i love animals, i don't think anyone (Besides FreeFall ) seemed to say anything about those people who were just minding their own business when a fucking shark tank just exploded and lacerated them. I'm glad their ok, too.
