Three primary school children were rushed to hospital yesterday after chewing up to 10 ecstasy tablets they believed were lollies.

A girl, 11, and two boys, both 10, took the prohibited substances in the playground during lunch break at Windang Public School, south of Wollongong on the NSW south coast, News Limited reports.

The incident follows warnings of a highly toxic batch of amphetamine sold on the streets after police seized a large quantity of the drug on the NSW central coast last week.

The children's heart rates were accelerated by the drug and their vision became blurred when they returned to class.

The young girl was so dizzy she collapsed, hitting her head on a classroom table.

While she was being treated in sick bay, the boys told teachers they had all taken tablets given to them by the girl, who said they were lollies.

Teachers searched the girl's school bag and discovered seven more tablets, believed to be ecstasy.

"It's not good when an (11-year-old) has got access to that and is sharing them around the schools," Senior Constable Phillip Brown from Lake Illawarra Area Command said.

The Year Five students were treated at Shellharbour hospital and later released.

Police will question the girl and her parents today about the incident.

The girl is unlikely to face criminal charges as she believed the ecstasy tablets were lollies, Senior Constable Brown said.

"She's got to know that they're amphetamines (to be charged)," he said.

Meanwhile, police have warned of a batch of ecstasy hitting the streets that features a Chanel or Pacman logo.

This latest batch contains the same cocktail of PDA, or paramethoxyamphetamine, that killed a 20-year-old dance teacher Annabel Catt at a dance part in February, police said.

That is horrible. Poor kids. I wonder how she got a hold of the ecstasy. Teach kids at a young age not to accept things from strangers.

i also heard a bit more about this on the radio news and they said the wollongong police would be interviewing the parents of the girl, i think they suspect they came from home.

Hmm 10 year old kids who are stupid enough to take random pills?

What?

Excuse me but maybe I live in a different universe but my damn mother told me when I was 4 not to do stupid shit.. Or maybe I was blessed with a bit more common sense, because I would've never been stupid enough to take random shit at the age of 10 and think it was a lollie?.. In fact I don't even think I ever ate lollies xD.. Though yeah my first ''sightings'' ''contacts'' were 2x younger ;P.. OK RANT!

But yeah children are always great targets for every addiction.. And addiction = money for someone

im pretty sure that this was more of an awful practical joke, then an E dealer trying to get 10 year olds hooked.

Problably, but you may never know, might've been a little of both..
