Hello. When I try to send a private message,it tells me this:
To be able to send private messages your post count must be 100 or greater. You currently have x posts.
Why don't you delete this thing?

Its because people join and spam us with messages. Get up to 100 posts and then you can message!

from the FAQ: Currently, you must have 100 posts to have the capability to PM (Private Message) members. If you have under 100 posts, you may only PM staff members. - If you are found to be posting spam simply to be able to use the PM system, your posts will be deleted and you may be warned by a staff member and infracted if you continue to do it a second time. - If you feel that somebody that has messaged you has abused the private messaging system (see below) you can report the private message and an Administrator will look into it.
but you can send "public messages" or whatever they're called.

It is kind of an interesting system. Do you worry that maybe people just write posts to fill the quota? I remember when I was in Alex's shoes, and had messages I couldn't reply to, and was tempted to go crazy filling all those surveys.

I'm glad you realize we did this to protect the site. We will not remove it, and there are always a few users who ask us to do so. It will stay in place as we have noticed it really does cut down on spam and inappropriate messages by discouraging spammers who sign up for the sole purpose of PMing.

It's not so much spam, although that is one factor.
It's more the fact that people have and will use it for inappropriate purposes. This includes trading of sexual images, exchange of contact information with the purpose of "camming", and just general sexual comments.
Since we're not a sex site, we try to avoid this nasty behaviour. To do so, we set the limit for private messages at 100 posts. This way, we can catch the majority of people with the intention of doing the above things before they can harass members. We cannot moderate this system completely as well, that would take too much time.
As a side-effect, this prevents legitimate members from being able to take full use of our features. But once you get to 100 posts you will be able to send private messages.

At first sight I thought it was a stupid rule. "How am I supposed to make new friends if I can't message them?" I thought. But after reading this and thinking about it, it isn't such a bad idea after all.
:)
A question tho: If another member sends you a pm? are you allowed to answer it?

If you get a PM with under 100 posts, you can read the message, but you cannot reply to it.

No, you'd still need 100+ posts to answer it.

Oki - thanx for the answer. I just hope the person sending me the message (if any) knows of the rule and doesn't think I'm being rude not to answer...

I love the rule, I imagine VT would turn to something like Omegle very quickly without it, over run by horny kids, if I ever see 14/m/horny on VT I will not hesitate to hunt down the offender and castrate him with a rambo knife!

I am sure everyone here who is serious about this site knows. It happened to me :whoops: I sent a PM to a member who had not 100+ posts and he/she replied in a different way provided (by me). So don't worry.
