Hello fellow teens (:
I'm an aspiring rapper and a poet. This is mostly for those who write songs. Do you write the lyrics first or create the sound first?
For me, I think sound would go first because it will be the one that will set the mood, then as a rapper, I try different patterns depending on the mood of the beat.
But sometimes, I switch things up. But I want to hear your thoughts and opinions about this

I'm not a music maker but I'd say the lyrics so you can then mould the beat around it

I usually like to make my songs using beats of songs already made but I still write the tricks first before I find a song it really just depends on how I am that day

I dont think there is a right way to make music. You just got to do what you feel makes your music express you the right way.

Sound! Did Mozart's symphonies have lyrics? Can you understand the words in operas when they're in foreign languages? Lyrics are wonderful, they add another layer of meaning to a musical piece, but the sound is more important.

I always start with lyrics. Then I come up with music to match. Lyrics are always important because they're the message of the song, you don't wanna have to try and bend and change your message to fit a beat.

I love to rap also but, I recommend actually writing the lyrics first so you can make music for it you know. But, if you want to choose a beat I recommend looking at multiple beats until you see the perfect one.

Ha, no. The lyrics are ultimately the least important part of music. You can get the same message out of just the music. Bands have even implemented vocal parts with made up languages to allow the expression of emotion without clouding the listener with a story the band forces the song to have.

I know the music is important. It is very emotional and helps with the message. But the lyrics ARE the message. Of course you want good music to go with it, but I would never change the the lyrics of a song too much so I wouldn't affect what I want the song to say. Its all a matter of opinion which is more important, and I realize what youre saying because I mean it wouldn't even be a song without music, but to me, I think the lyrics are more important.

Not that I make music or anything but for me the sound or mood of the song is more important than the lyrics.

I write the words first, then say them over and over and they sort of fit into a rhythm. I then write the tune
