People have finally written a formal petition to the United States Government for the Westboro Baptist Church to be called a hate group. This would cause the church to lose it's tax exemption from the IRS, as well as hurt their already failing image.

Good, they are a hate group.
They're nothing but judgemental assholes, just because something is against their beliefs, it means it's "wrong".
I hope this petition gets passed.

Other countries already consider them a de facto 'hate group'. Their members were banned from entering the UK in 2009 for their homophobic views.

That fox piece is unsurprisingly lacking in detail about the hateful things WBC have said and done in relation to the Conneticut shootings.

After Anonymous posted her telephone number on Twitter, she Tweeted that if you contact her or other church members : “We’ll tell you those kids died for fag marriage.”

Another church member Tweeted” “God Almighty smacked USA with #Sandy & she’s brazen in her sin still; THEN He gives you a right hook – make that #SandyHook! #RepentingYet??”

The church’s founder Fred Phelps Tweeted “That’s the message that this evil nation and world need: that God Almighty is on the march & nothing is gonna stop Him.”

His son Fred Phelps junior Tweeted: “Beautiful work of an angry God who told Wisconsin to keep their filthy hands off his people (WBC)!”

They also made a video that also ranted on about this and other shooting around the US.

I certainly don't see why they or any 'religion' gets tax relief. Studies have shown that religion costs the US taxpayer over $72 billion annually, which seems wrong to me when many of those religions are so actively involved in subverting democracy by spending millions on political campaigns such as in relation to abortion and marriage. It's become so bad that the IRS have been asked to review the Catholic church's (for one) IRC 501(c)(3) tax exempt status. If major religion is breaking US law and getting away with it, the law as it stands isn't working.

I hope this gets passed, honestly. They are a very hateful, intolerant and ignorant group of people who use tragic events to force their hateful opinions down peoples throats. They are disgusting.

I can't believe they aren't already labeled as a hate group. There is nothing positive about those people.

Strange, I thought the UK hasn't taken a stance when it comes to same-sex marriage?

Obviously this was a long time coming for WBC.

The day WBC goes down will be the day I can rest. It should be a national holiday!

From the day I first learned of them they've been nothing but a hate group in my mind. I actually get confused when people refer to them as otherwise.

This petition needs to pass.

The majority of the population is in favour of the proposed legislation, so that is the current national stance. As to whether the politicians will get their fingers out and vote in a timely fashion is another question entirely, since they've only gotten around to deciding to award medals to the Arctic Convoy guys from WW2 (who even the Russians have given medals to) ;-)

For anyone who isn't sure about who WBC are, here's an excellent independent documentary from Australia.

Westboro Baptist Church are a total disgrace to humanity. I read that they had been trying to picket the funerals of the Newtown children. They maintained: 'God sent the shooter'.

According to the White House website, however, this (https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/investigate-irs-tax-exempt-status-westboro-baptist-church/YrKbHYtV) petition has almost 50,000 signatures above what was needed for the investigation requested. So, some time after January 15th we should hopefully see some justified change.

They are a hate group. Nobody can possibly dispute that fact given what the group does. Just look at some of their comments about other religions:

So what if our guys flushed copies of the Quran down the toilet? We hope they did. They probably did; We hope they flush more. Mohammed was a demon-possessed whoremonger and pedophile who contrived a 300-page work of Satanic fiction: The Quran! Like America's own whoremonger and pedophile wangled his own hokey Book of Mormon!

This comment was made in relation to an article alleging that some American soldiers had flushed copies of the Qur'an down toilets in Guantanamo Bay.

80% of India's population claim to practice Hinduism. Nuff said. A country full of idolatry inevitably results in a nation full of fags and fag-enablers, because that's what happens when you depart from the Living God!
If you would STOP worshipping false gods, being a fag would not be a complex matter. Stop going a whoring after other gods and start serving the Living God in truth!

The only true Jews are Christians. The rest of the people who claim to be Jews aren't, and they are nothing more than typical, impenitent sinners ... the vast majority of Jews support fags. In fact, it is the official policy of Reformed Jews to support same-sex marriage.

Judge for yourself.

Oh no, nice try young Lucifer! (Pun intended). Mr Phelps would tell you his bible says judging is bad Matthew 7 etc. Wait ...

The petition to label WBC a hate group (https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/legally-recognize-westboro-baptist-church-hate-group/DYf3pH2d?utm_source=wh.gov&utm_medium=shorturl&utm_campaign=shorturl) stands at over 300,000 , and just checking the tax one that was around 75,000 at the time of writing.

I'm honestly surprised and disappointed the figures aren't higher but at least it will have the desired effect of getting those points looked at.

Don't be disappointed, many people don't even know the petition site exists.
