I've recently wondered what other people's thoughts are on PETA. I personally think that they're... well... nuts. Now, I have nothing against animal rights (to an extent), but I believe that PETA has gone too far in more than one respect. Now, I wonder if people outside of the agricultural world have a different view. What are your thoughts?
If you're unsure, I recommend you check out their website for more information.
I believe that my opinion is very well informed, and would be happy to answer any questions.

I'm not a big fan of PETA. The advertisements are just so fucking sexist and fat-phobic and crazy and guilt tripping I mean what the fuck. I'm all for saving the animals, but they are, as you said, nuts. I'm not sure how involved they are in Australia, because I've only ever seen PETA online, but my support goes to other organizations in Australia, like the RSPCA (R stands for royal instead on American, I think) and Animal Welfare League.

How they handle the majority of issues is really immature and makes people dislike them more. Like how activists throw red dye at celebrities wearing fur coats. Not only is that a waste of money to the person who bought it, but it shows disrespect to that animal and that animals life. Now, the animal really did die for nothing. I'm not pro fur, but I'm not anti fur either. It makes no sense when they damage fur coats or products.

I have a personal distaste for PETA.
Once in a blue moon some members will get brave and set up tables, get their little picket signs, their blow horns and rally in front of the local Pets Plus. They had one last month, usually they get to do it once a year before they get chased away. They screamed profanities, insults, and called me "dog rapist". All because I was walking side to pet the hamsters and stare at puppies. Now, I do not support puppy mills but I do not believe in punishing the puppies for how they were born. Puppy mill bred or not, those puppies also deserve love and affection and a home. If they're not bought and not worth breeding, majority of the time they will be killed. I do no agree with that, that puppy did not ask to be born into the conditions it was, and since it's here, I will not punish it for that.
They also set up outside of places that sell meat. One tried to liken killing baby elephants to my eating a burger.
They're rude, insulting, aggressive and more often chase away people than again followers.
They're extremely intolerant of the fact that people eat meat and do not live as they want them to. It's not an animal rights group I could ever support.

I think PETA is insane. They go way to far and do nothing to promote animal rights. They are extremely rude and annoying, and just turn people off from animal rights.

i agree with them being a little to over dramatic
half of their video ads are faked/acted upon
now im against animal abuse to an extent like klittens, dogs, horses, etc
but how else would we live if us meat eaters didnt have meat to live on
our bodys naturally need meat to survive without it our iron levels drops and heart disease is more likely to happen
im sad to say i did fall to the ways of the peta campaigne and i went vegetarian for almost a year and in that time frame i got really sick and had to start slowly eating meat again.
my old highschool was a strong advocate for PETA and i used to get sad seeing the videos of pigs and cows being beaten
i still support animal rights but not peta. we kill cows..pigs... and chickens etc to eat
its not against the law to kill those animals because if we didnt eat them they would over populate the earth.

I like their cause, hate their methods.
PETA is one of those organisations that likes to force their opinions down your throat and regards you as an enemy if you disagree with anything they say or do.
I do believe in animal rights (although I do eat meat), but I whole-heartedly disagree with the way PETA functions. They are very disrespectful, particularly towards celebrities. I recall a PETA protestor throwing flour at Kim Kardashian because she wore fur. I'm not fond of Kim K, but humiliating people like that doesn't do a whole lot for your credibility.

It's one of those pointless governmental programs. Do I support animal rights, yes, do I support PETA. Hell no, if I want to wear a fur coat, they can't stop me (not saying I would ever wear one), but they're simply just extremists in a dying program desperate to do anything for attention.

I'm all for animal rights, but I agree with you, they're pretty fucking nuts, and they take shit way too extreme.

I think that everyone here can say that PETA is an insult to animal rights groups. Lets just get stories about how they show their screwed up extremist views.

I don't think PETA is extreme in its advocacy of animal rights.
I do think the ads are fucking sexist. They objectify women, body-shame, and generally are off-topic. PETA spends most of its money on these stupid ads and actually does more harm than good.

But you pretty much contradicted yourself there. Through PETA's advertisements, they are being sexist and demoralizing women in a disgusting way. It is extreme for its advocacy of animal rights because of the way they advertise. I mean who are they trying to target? Horny men who are all about some animal rights? Studies show that animal rights advocates are more likely to be women (http://www.animalsandsociety.net/assets/library/399_s731.pdf) as shown in the first two pages of this research document.
And well, they definitely don't have my support. I'm sorry, but if you think that "extraordinary things" (http://www.peta.org/about/faq/why-does-peta-use-controversial-tactics.aspx) are going to make me support your cause, then you're going to have to come up with something else.

PETA is basically the Westboro Baptist Church of animal rights programs. That's what I think of them. It's a much more worthwhile cause to help the ASPCA with their shelter and adoption program.

This is a damn good analogy.

No, what I meant was that I don't think the things PETA claims to want to accomplish are extreme ends. The means are fucking horrible though.

They are nuts. I once told a PETA member that I hunt deer, and he went on a huge 5 minute rant on how it was inhumane to hunt deer. Made my day.
