Coming out letter?

Earlier, on one of my other threads the topic of coming out in a letter came up. I really like the idea of it, I won't have to tell my parents face to face and it will give them time to think about it. I really think that it is time that I let them know and I think I am ready. I have hid who I am for 3-4 years and I am tired of it. This brings me to my question. How should I go about writing the letter? Should I just come right out and say it? Or should I beat around the bush to prepare them for whats about to come?

A letter is an ok idea. If you were going to do it like this then i would give them the letter on a friday and then sleep over a friends house for the weekend.

That may be the case for you; but it's not always the same for everybody else.

If you feel that a letter is the way to go then by all means go for it. You shouldn't do anything that you aren't completely comfortable with -- it's your decision -- just make sure that you're ready to go through with it.

If you do it at the start, it may be a a shock but then you have the whole letter to get your feelings out and answer the normal questions. If you do it in the middle, you can explain your feelings first, then your sexuality later. If you do it right at the end, it may leave them with some questions that don't fit for you to answer later on, probably face-to-face. So it's up to you to decide. There isn't a right or wrong, there's just a 'what works best for you'. :)

Just remember that sooner or later, you will talk to your parents about it, or they will talk to you. If may be a couple hours after the letter, or when you bring home a boy for the first time. Don't think this is a get out of jail free card. :P Just be prepared for the day when the questions start being asked as well. :)
