I have a motherboard that only supports LGA775 Pentium 4 processors. Here's my question. Is it too much of a risk to put in an LGA775 Dual Core processor? The manual says it only supports P4, but since they are the same socket type, would it cause any damage?

What Motherboard is it? And, by Dual Core, which Processor do you mean?

It's an Intel D925XECV2, and I mean any dual core processor, like core 2 duo or whatever.

Core 2, No. It took me quite a while to find any reference to someone actually saying with certainty that No, You cannot use a Core 2.

Also, for Pentium D, It also looks like a No.

Looks like the the Chipsets Intel Made JUST AFTER the 925 Support At LEAST the Pentium D, but Not the 925.

Looks like Yours will support ONLY P4, and P4EE ("P4 Extreme Edition," NOT "Pentium Extreme Edition," They're Different)

This looks like the only Processors Supported by It: http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d925xecv2/sb/CS-026941.htm

Decent motherboards are only like 100 bucks. A new one will support faster RAM and video cards, too.
