No, whatever works for you is right for you. In general, for someone who is uncut, if the skin is short enough that it does not cover any of the hole in the end of the glans, or if it is long enough that it forms a nipple beyond the end of the glans, you can get away without holding it back.

If, like mine, it is somewhere in between it can partially obstruct that hole and cause the stream to go off at an angle. In that case the solution is to pull it back slightly so the hole is completely clear.

Back to the original question, yes most of the time I hold my penis and also pull my foreskin back slightly so I can be sure to piss in the toilet and not elsewhere. Occasionally it is nice to not have to aim for example in the shower or maybe outdoors in which case I can let it hang free.

nah after I pull it back it slowly goes back and covers the head. sometimes makes a bit of a mess. so its easier just to pull it back and hold it. its no big deal. its not like it takes long to take a piss.
