So, how high is your IQ? I was bored googled IQ test and did the quiz myself, so how high is yours? Use this one (http://www.quickiqtest.net/ ) so it's fair for everybody. Name your age too.

also, no cheating! ;)

I got 107 "higher average"... :(

I know these tests don't actually measure your IQ accurately (and what do we actually have that can nowadays), especially since it's only 15 questions, but urgh, I still wish I got a little higher.. :|

What was yours?

The point of posting is to reassure people that ANY IQ test is suspect, and this one particularly so as it is so short.
Edit:
Ok I confess I got bored and tried it, which only confirmed my view that these tests are not meaningful. I scored 139 with 19 points. I went back and repeated the test, each time replacing one answer with a deliberately wrong one. Each wrong answer dropped my score considerably, indicating that my original answer got some credit. So this makes me conclude one of two things.
a) some of the questions have more than one "right" answer since I didn't score 140, and some 'right' answers score more than others. Multiple 'right' answers increase the chance of a successful guess, so in the scope of this test gives you a massive 40% chance (2/5) of guessing 'right' as opposed to 20%. How is it 'intelligent' to get a right answer when you almost have even odds of picking one? This suggests to me that the questions are inherently flawed if multiple solutions exist.
or
b) less likely - I got a low scoring question 'wrong' in which case if I'm 'clever' according to my score, how come this 'easy' question was hard for me? If this is the case it suggests the 'easy' question may have been incorrectly weighted in the scoring.

Also, I spent a hell of a long time thinking about two of the questions, and someone more intelligent than me may well have spent less time but achieved the same score.

What is measured in IQ tests is generally a subset of human faculties (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/tvradio/programmes/horizon/broadband/tx/intelligence/highlights/) and thus not meaningful in describing how well someone will perform when faced with a real world problem. Other research also indicates other flaws (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-13156817) that need to be addressed with existing forms of IQ testing. I have a very dyslexic friend who scores poorly on traditional tests, but when given tests that removed any literacy type components actually scored extremely highly (and yes, those tests are calibrated to fairly test non-dyslexics as well as dyslexics).

The bottom line is that as a general case the measurements are flawed, and the results are misinterpreted.

I scored 125, but there's one thing that stood out to me that makes this test inaccurate. IQ stands for intelligence quotient. It's your chronological age and your mental age. This test doesn't account for you age, so it can't possibly be accurate.

The last time I took a real IQ test was when I was 13, I scored 139.

Mine said 13 points and an IQ of 124... basically i didn't have a clue for the majority of answers (2 i thought i knew the answer) so i just went with gut instinct answers. "Choose the answer that logically fits." None of them were logical to me!!! I guess you were supposed to be looking for some kind of pattern, but i couldn't see it. And the number ones  I'm quite impressed i managed to bullshit myself to above average :D

I'm not taking any online test.
About sixth months ago I was asked at school to take an IQ test, along with some other students. I scored 164, about the same as last year which was 166. I have a feeling that my IQ will drop slowly but steadily.

Euuuugh. I didn't like that test in the least. It's about finding patterns. I'd very much enjoy THE ANSWERS, or at least the questions I got wrong.

Then I saw the horoscopes ad.

119, but luckily the test has been viewed as inaccurate. Not....so great, although it does have adults as well. Nevertheless, the lower spectrum of above average? Ick.

Oop - age. 14.

This is why I don't like these things, they just make people feel bad. The test is far from accurate, don't worry about the score. Look at all the people who know their IQ commenting to that point. Also see the comments I made about the suspect scoring on the test, and the issues with IQ testing. Its just for a bit of fun :P

First, let me preface my post with this: I don't believe in IQ tests. I think they are inaccurate and inadequate ways to measure how smart someone is. Especially an online one, though real life tests too.

I had to take one for my psychology class, and I got a 107. It was a really stupid test, which was basically comprehending how well I could untwist a twisted, complicated problem, that had no relativity to how smart I really am.

I wrote a paper on this for psych, lol. I could go on forever, but I'll stop there.

Here are some tips how you can improve your thinking and memory, followed by your IQ test results

IQ tests are used by a number of companies to help them measure abstract and logical thinking of their job applicants. As you know, in most cases, it is hard to get employed by the first company where you apply for a position, as there's usually a lot of other applicants to consider as well. Test your intelligence with as many IQ tests as you can and your IQ can slowly, but gradually increase as you train specific parts of your brain.

To utilize the maximum potential, it is important to ensure a sufficient blood supply of oxygen and nutrients to the brain. It is known that practically any 20 minutes long aerobic exercise significantly improves the thinking ability and memory. It stimulates the production of the growth hormone that is needed to restore nerve cells. Furthermore, it promotes formation of neurotransmitters for better memory, and reduces stress as well.

There are also other, easier and faster ways to stimulate your brain's effectivity, which you can practice really anywhere. One being a profund breathing exercise. Just slowly inhale while counting to 8, then hold your breath for 12 counts and finally slowly exhale while counting to 10.

If you have a sedentary job, always make sure that your back is straight as it will significantly improve the blood supply to your brain. Also, make sure that you stand up for a while. It's been scientifically proven that the stand-up position improves the ability to learn and think by up to 30%.

Last but not least, make sure that you eat healthy and nutrient meals. This advice is often very underestimated, but there are studies showing that it can help increase your IQ by 10 points or even more.

You have reached 13 points and your IQ is: 124

I'm stupid :(

Actually, according to your results... you are above average by 7 points. (American average is 112)

No, the American average is 100. So is the rest of the world. IQ tests were developed at Stanford but still today anything but a real, paper one is pretty unreliable. Every time I've taken one my score varies between 110 and 140. Also did anyone notice that no one in this thread got under 100, even though that's the average. IQ's are like penis sizes, every guy says its bigger than it really is.

Yeah. I hear what you're saying. My psych teacher did say it was between 108 and 116 though.

The average IQ is, by definition, 100. The test is designed and calibrated so that 100 is the average. They basically take the average score and set it equal to an IQ of 100., then set the other scores so that the test has a standar deviation of 15, or 16 for some tests.

I don't really think that the people in this thread are lying about their IQ, just that this test gives us a higher IQ than we really have, I mean the average IQ would probably be much higher if they used this test^^

I mentioned this point earlier, but here's an article to make everyone feel better :)
IQ tests are 'fundamentally flawed' and using them alone to measure intelligence is a 'fallacy', study finds

The idea that intelligence can be measured by IQ tests alone is a fallacy according to the largest single study into human cognition which found that it comprises of at least three distinct mental traits.

IQ tests have been used for decades to assess intelligence but they are fundamentally flawed because they do not take into account the complex nature of the human intellect and its different components, the study found.

The results question the validity of controversial studies of intelligence based on IQ tests which have drawn links between intellectual ability race, gender and social class and led to highly contentious claims that some groups of people are inherently less intelligent that other groups.

Instead of a general measure of intelligence epitomised by the intelligence quotient (IQ), intellectual ability consists of short-term memory, reasoning and verbal agility. Although these interact with one another they are handled by three distinct nerve “circuits” in the brain, the scientists found.

“The results disprove once and for all the idea that a single measure of intelligence, such as IQ, is enough to capture all of the differences in cognitive ability that we see between people,” said Roger Highfield, director of external affairs at the Science Museum in London.

“Instead, several different circuits contribute to intelligence, each with its own unique capacity. A person may well be good in one of these areas, but they are just as likely to be bad in the other two,” said Dr Highfield, a co-author of the study published in the journal Neuron.

The research involved an on-line survey of more than 100,000 people from around the world who were asked to complete 12 mental tests for measuring different aspects of cognitive ability, such as memory, reasoning, attention and planning.

The researchers took a representative sample of 46,000 people and analysed how they performed. They found there were three distinct components to cognitive ability: short-term memory, reasoning and a verbal component.

Professor Adrian Owen of the University of Western Ontario in Canada said that the uptake for the tests was astonishing. The scientists expected a few hundred volunteers to spend the half hour it took to complete the on-line tests, but in the end they got thousands from every corner of the world, Professor Owen said.

The scientists found that no single component, or IQ, could explain all the variations revealed by the tests. The researcher then analysed the brain circuitry of 16 participants with a hospital MRI scanner and found that the three separate components corresponded to three distinct patterns of neural activity in the brain.

“It has always seemed to be odd that we like to call the human brain the most complex known object in the Universe, yet many of us are still prepared to accept that we can measure brain function by doing a few so-called IQ tests,” Dr Highfield said.

“For a century or more many people have thought that we can distinguish between people, or indeed populations, based on the idea of general intelligence which is often talked about in terms of a single number: IQ. We have shown here that’s just wrong,” he said.

Studies over the past 50 years based on IQ tests have suggested that there could be inherent differences in intelligence between racial groups, social classes and between men and women, but these conclusions are undermined by the latest findings, Dr Highfield said.

“We already know that, from a scientific point of view, the notion of race is meaningless. Genetic differences do not map on to traditional measurements of skin colour, hair type, body proportions and skull measurements. Now we have shown that IQ is meaningless too,” Dr Highfield said.
