How to change the... well I don't know what to call it...

I've seen people with the thing just above their post face thingy changed where the member, member +, awesome poster, etc. I was just wondering how to change it.

You're referring to the User Title. That changes automatically with each of your post rank increase, and once you reach the 2500 post rank, you will have the option/ability to change that to something of your own choosing. So, as things stand right now, you can't change your User Title, but once you hit 2500 you'll be able to! :)

I think member+ is when you reach 250 posts, awesome poster is when you reach 1,000 posts.
They're just user titles you get when you reach certain milestones, and as Noirtier said, you can pick your own user title when you reach 2,500 posts.
There is no way to disable user titles.

You missed out 5000 & 10000+ as we do have post count faces for those two. milestones as well.

However yes, you can change your user title at 2500 posts.
